Disappointing to hear about State coach at this level receiving tech fouls. I think our elite (and impressionable) young players deserve better than this example.

Remeber though a coach may get a T delibratly as a means of shifting the umpires focus. If they feel they are getting a rough deal, by getting a T, they may try to shift the ump's focus off the players and onto him/herself.

Give the poor guy a break. He was obviously passionate about the team and vented this passion in a way that got him a T. Sometimes a T can help a team get back on track and give them a bit of a boost.

It was two techs from two games and a report to BA - his passion must be running over.

They lost today and he DIDN'T get a tech.

They are now playing for somewhere between 9th and 14th.

As for shifting focus. At the time his T was awarded the game was tied. The only focus that was shifted was the girls.

STIP - i didn't see the game, just letting people know that it is a legitimate tactic used by coaches on occassions.

I wasn't suggesting it was used for this reason by this coach at this time.

The box scores only have one T for that team for the tournament so far...

I think you will find that this coach has recieved an official warning for the rest of nationals. For him to recieve a warning makes SA look bad and not to mention there would have had to be a good reason for him to recieve this warning. He has a warning. This is FACT. I know this first hand from someone thats over there. Not people bagging a coach without having a clue.

What The,

The U16 SA Metro girls in 2002 (featuring Lisa Scaglia & 3 of this years U18s as bottom ages) lost the 3/4 playoff to WA Metro. That WA team had Rebecca Duke, who is now an Adelaide Fella.

So it wasn't that long ago!

Maybe these results say more about the competition standard in SA than about the coaching.

Look at the players in the teams. Out of the 9 teams they play, each of the better kids get about 3 decent games. In the other6 games they don't need to play hard and only learn bad habits.

And those people baggin coaches here are probably those from the club who voted against double div 1's. You can't have it both ways.

Well STIP,

Having a look a the game. WAm had 11 fouls called and SA Met had 26 foul's called.

I would hacve thought the coach had a reason to be a little aggrieved

And what is to say that the refereeing wasn't one sided. And bad.

Or that the referee's didn't take it out on a team becasue the coach let them know that they were doing a bad job.

From looking at the quarter by quarter scores. It looks like the SA Girls ended up not being sure of what they could do. Tied at 3/4 time and then getting blown out in the last. Having bad refereeing can severely effect 14/15 year old players making them tentative and question their own decisions.

Bad refereeing can hve that much of an effect on a game.

Again, just from looking at the stats.

With results this morning, with SA Metro & Country Men both winning, I assume they will be playing each other for 9th & 10th tomorrow.

The Women are playing each other tonight, with the winner going into a play off for 5th 7 the loser to the play-off for 7th
