NBA Interest in Joe Ingles

Found this post this morning. The Aussie invasion continues in the NBA.

* Australian small forward Joe Ingles has fielded interest from the Sixers, sources tell Sporando's Orazio Cauchi (Twitter link). David Pick of Eurobasket.com reported this weekend that multiple NBA teams were eyeing the 26-year-old, so it looks like Philadelphia has some competition.

The Grizzlies, Hawks and Jazz were reportedly interested in Ingles as of March, when Pick wrote that he was thinking about making the jump to the NBA this summer. Ingles rejected a two-year offer from Memphis last year, around the same time that the Pacers, Bucks and Clippers also seemingly had their eyes on the veteran of international play. NBA teams passed on him in the 2009 draft, and his pro numbers haven’t been impressive. Ingles averaged just 6.0 points in 21.2 minutes per game for Maccabi Tel Aviv this past season, but he’s been a more significant part of the offense for the Australian national team in the FIBA World Cup this week, notching 14.5 PPG in 26.5 MPG.

The Sixers have no shortage of cap flexibility to outbid other NBA suitors and float an offer large enough to pry Ingles from overseas. They also have plenty of roster space. They’re carrying only eight guaranteed deals, as our roster counts show. Philadelphia can also provide Ingles with a familiar presence in coach Brett Brown, who coached him on the Australian national team in the 2012 Olympics, as Paul Garcia of Project Spurs notes (on Twitter).

Pretty silly turning down a two year deal with a playoff team that had little depth on the wing, unless he parlays that into a better deal this time around.

He was offered a deal previously and turned it down, he would be silly to do that again. Can be a contributor on a fairly weak 76er roster

Offensively - he has a solid NBA game, can pass, shoot the 3, drive and generally makes good decisions

Defensively - will get exposed against top athlete's. When he switches onto guards he can't stay in front of them and he doesn't box out and rebound against bigger/stronger forwards.

Brett Brown was a fan of his, so the rumour makes sense. Just hope he can convince 76ers management to get a player who can help now rather than picking 21yr old kids.

You would have to assume the 2yr deal he was offered by the Grizz was a non-guaranteed training camp deal.
So he probably took the guaranteed money in Europe.

I think he could be a good role=player in the NBA if he can hit the NBA 3pter. Has a lot of experience at good Euro clubs and playing for the national team.

Plus Philli don't care about winning games so what do they have to lose :)

In terms of skill he's definitely NBA quality - Good shooter, ball handler, passer, high basketball iq. Physically he also ticks boxes with 6'8 and a large wingspan.

The problem is in terms of speed and athleticism he's below par for the NBA. As someone else said, he'd struggle to guard NBA small forwards and would be a liability on defense. Also a lot of the drives and offensive moves he does in FIBA he wouldn't get away with in the NBA due to the quicker players.

Marc Stein also reporting on this, calling Jingles a "virtual lock" to end up in the league next seasonhttp://m.espn.go.com/general/blogs/blogpost?blogname=marc-stein&id=2964&src=desktop&rand=ref~%7B%22ref%22%3A%22http%3A%2F%2Ft.co%2FNTaK4uGC2Z%22%7D

According to NBA front-office sources, Ingles has emerged as a virtual lock to land in the league this coming season -- likely on a guaranteed deal -- on the strength of his strong play here at the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
