CABL Grand Final
If you had told me at the start of the season that The Lady Flames would not be in the GF I would have laughed at you, asked if you had taken your meds, then asked what pyschic you had been to. But Norwood aren't there, and in their place it’s a classic battle between good and evil. In the black corner we have Sturt, the club we all love to hate. They are the Collingwood / Manly of the competition and rumours of them selling grandmothers is completely false. In the white corner we have the Rockettes. In their spare time they help grandmothers cross the road, water their garden and then fetch their cats out of trees.
There are punters on this forum writing off Sturt due to the injury to one player. Let me warn you that Sturt should not be taken lightly. Just because one string on their violin is broken, doesn’t mean they can’t beat the devil in a fiddle competition. They will be giving it their all to get a flag just to hang up next to their gold fiddle collection.
For North, it is all about Jo. This is her very last CABL game and she is an inspiration to any young player, particularly those playing with or against her. The script has been written perfectly and if we didn’t know better, even Walt Disney wouldn’t have scripted this final chapter more eloquently. The title must go to North. Denying Jo her spot in the sun would be like stealing the wheels of a disabled kid’s wheelchair, on her way to chemo.
But just remember girls to get Jo back home by midnight before she turns into a pumpkin.
In the men’s we have the Battle of the Westerners. Woodville had a hiccup off court during the season, but responded well to steal back top spot from the Flames. West had been a solid performer all season, but have saved their best until the major round. I’m sure they will claim they have been in 3rd gear all season, but I reckon in the week before finals, they secretly had their XC Falcon on the hoist, dropped out the engine to replace it with a 351 Chevy engine.
Oh, this will be a delicious game. Both teams have won on home courts this season. Starling, the darling of Woodville, took out the Woollacott MVP medal, but it will mean nothing if Woodville don’t despatch West. For West, it is all about the shooting. In their loss to Woodville, they shot poorly. Was it a bad night, or the pressure of those Warriors?
Both teams have a good case to win this flag, and not many reasons to lose the game. That’s what makes it hard to pick a winner tonight, and that is what will make this grand final such a pearler. This could go either way. Woodville have been the better team this season and rightly deserve their minor premiership. West have saved their best for the major round and are hotter than Moomba at midday. I have a gut feeling West will get this one, but then again I think the Warriors have the slightly fresher legs and will keep the tempo up meaning this could be a double century game in what could be a 3 point party. The West freight train to run out of steam, Warriors to get this one.
