Echuca Pirates possible return to Big V?

There is a little bit of talk around the town that they would love to get the Pirates back into the Big V where they belong. Not sure if the Big V is that interested tho

IMO opinion the powerbrokers of Big V need to get out there and have a chat to them and make this become a reality

The BIG V would love more country sides involved, so if they put forth a good case and have the support structures in place i am sure they would get excepted. It`s not jst about what happens on the court, they don`t want sides that are going to be around one season and then gone.

@Dr ABC, I would be interested to know what the talk is and why they see the Big V as a good fit for their program?

That division are we looking at?
Is it only the mens program, or women as well?

Having seen their men play the Vic Country 18 boys earlier this year, their professionalism and court manner left a lot to be desired, so unless they have improved in certain areas I would not consider them a good fit personally...

^Chairman of BVC^

Why would Big V go to them.... how about you apply and come to the big smoke and show why you even qualify to play in the league - and I hope it's not just because of the small time CV Under 16 boys assistant who is a big shot in the bush...

HA! These guys were not even half competitive in CBL! They'll be in the BigV for a season or two and then realize they cant compete size, player pool or financially with the others... God help the future of BigV if they're let in!

Seems like everyone wants their own team and they all throw common sense out of the window

Half the players in that side were melbourne guys playing there on the weekends so they wont have them for a season. Far fetched idea.

They could go back to the old system of Divisions 1 to 6 again and get rid of Youth League.

Youth league is one of the best things about the Big V, not a good idea IMHO...

What does youth league achieve though? its just another year of U20's to be honest. In many ways it under prepares these guys for the next step.

I know a few of the big clubs looked at putting their YL men in Div 1 because it gave them better exposure to bigger stronger competition and would harden them up to be able to play SEABL..

As it stands YL is isolated from what Men's Basketball is really like.

Where would you fast track your best 16-17 year old kids if not in Youth League? Most Associations would not be playing them in their men's Big V teams because these teams will already have a full roster.

Taking away YL would reduce the flexibility for development for the best teenage kids out there, it isn't another version of under 20's IMO, not even close from what I have seen...

16-17 year old kids don't and shouldn't be playing YL though. They have U18's and U20's for that.

The better clubs prohibit juniors from playing in their YL sides.

The vast majority of the top YL teams are 18-22 years olds.

Yes they are, but their best player may be a 17 year old!

If a club needs 16 and 17 year olds to make up numbers for a YL team you really have a weak program...

Leave them in 18's and probably bottom age 20's till they mature and leave YL for the top age and retiring 20's to play and prepare for Div or SEABL.

^^^ Sound like someone who was overlooked by a better 16-17 year old. If the kids are ready at that age why hold them back. If they have more talent than a 20 year old at the club and are ready, then why not fast track them by giving them the spot.

It is actually the reverse, the top programs have the best teenagers and they don't usually go to the 20's, they get a feel for it in youth league and go straight to college, Big V or SEABL!

Think some people need to get their facts straight before commenting.
1) there was 1 player from Melbourne playing in the CBL side, and his family lives in Echuca. That hardly constitutes half the team.
2) that CV State Coach you're having a dig at hasn't been in Echuca since the start of Feb.
