Triangle Offence and the Knicks

I found a video on a different basketball forum of a guy breaking down the basic triangle offence, the system Derek Fisher will use as the coach of the Knicks. He uses footage of the Knicks summer league play and offers good, clear analyse. If Fish can get his guys in the regular season to buy into the system they could be good.

It's not Fisher that wants the Triangle Offence, it's Phil Jackson.
The guy has used it at the Lakers & Bulls to good effect.

Yes, but Fisher is the guy who will be coaching it. Phil won't be on the sidelines.

Don't you need an inside game to run the triangle?

Actually its probably Mello that wants to run the triangle offence.

He will be the primary guy isolated at the elbow/ foul line extended/ post up position 15 feet from the basket ideally, according to Tex Winter.

M, all you need is someone that post up and score, don't need a a great centre (see Cartright and Longley) although a Shaq type does help as it would anywhere

All you need is Jordan/Pippen or Shaq/Kobe and the offense works quite well.

The offense just needs passing bigs and someone to hold down the post who can play with the back to the basket. Melo is a turn and face guy primarily but he should be able to learn the spot.

Guards need to be able to hit corner threes and you need players who can read and react to a defense. Its the NBA if they can`t do this why the hell are they there at all.

Rather then Melo wasting energy in isolation plays all game this will see him work the post possitons and should see him being more effective.
