Wright says Ingles is outside 36ers price range

ADELAIDE 36ers coach Joey Wright says SA-born Boomer Joe Ingles remains out of his club's price range as he continues his search for roster additions in the US.

Wright said the Sixers will be unable to take advantage of the NBL’s new marquee player rule unless their membership grows significantly and that would be the only way to entice Ingles to stay in Adelaide.

"We can’t buy Joe’s lunch let alone offer him marquee money," Wright said.

“If our membership reaches 5500 we would be able to offer some marquee money but we need the fans to help us.”

Wright, who is in Las Vegas watching the NBA Summer League, says it looks increasingly unlikely three-time club MVP Daniel Johnson will return next season.

“We would love to retain Daniel but have been told repeatedly that they won’t accept any offers until they have explored Europe fully so it doesn’t look good,” he said.

“So we are looking for a stretch four type like Daniel as an import along with another guard to finish the roster.”

Johnson is back in Adelaide after a stint playing in Puerto Rico and played for West Adelaide in the state competition last weekend.

Wright’s search for the final members of his team has seen him attend the Drew League in Los Angeles, two private workouts in Texas and another camp in Las Vegas in the past few weeks.

His most recent signings were NBL veterans Peter Crawford and Jamar Wilson, who join Adam Gibson, Anthony Petrie, Mitch Creek, Luke Schenscher, Brendan Teys and BJ Anthony on next season’s squad.

“Peter Crawford was added to provide some consistent perimeter shooting along with veteran leadership and experience,” Wright said.

“Jamar was recruited because he can attack defenders but also shoots it well enough to keep them honest while running the team with a cool head.”

Adelaide’s preseason begins on July 28. Wilson is expected to arrive from the United States in late August.

5500 members before marquee can be considered?

Approx 1200 (with members sent a reminder recently to renew by the end of the July if they wish to retain the same seats they had last season).

Interesting comments regarding DJ exploring options in Europe.

If only we had a millionaire like Perth or a pair of rich guys like Melbourne or some clever accountants like Sydney or a whole nation behind 1 team like NZ then we could have JIngles..... Marquee rule and player loyalty is so fair.... NOT

Dear Shahin's,

Please flick us some of your pocket change for a marquee player. In return you can sell your crappy donuts at our home games.

Regards

Fair enough if DJ leaves for a better offer in Europe. I just hope no stone has been left unturned by the Sixers in selling DJ on staying here to win some titles. He could really leave his mark on the NBL if he stayed, as opposed to just bouncing around Europe for a few years where he will quickly be forgotten by most fans. (Just like most NBL imports these days)

Would love to see Ingles back too but can't see it happening until he is well past his best.

From the article:-

"Adelaide's preseason begins on July 28. Wilson is expected to arrive from the United States in late August."

Why does Wilson miss the first month of preseason?
Will the remainder of the squad be in place by 28 July?

I questioned the same thing Spinner...it's not like he is competing in Summer League or anything like that to prevent him from getting here earlier.

Having said that, most imports join late and maybe the Sixers are letting him spend additional time with his family before a long absence?

Probably because that's when he's said he will come over. Often imports or new big-name signings dictate some terms while rookies and those already in town are roped in to pre-season early. Depends how strict the coach is too. A signing will often go ahead assuming or aware of a later arrival.

I know the Hawks have been training already, though I don't know how close that schedule is to full pre-season.

Perth does (present tense) not rely on its millionaire owner.

They bring in $1m a year on their own.

Love Jack and he has been very important, however Perth is it's own momentum based on great marketing, record finals and strong grass roots support
