Panthers Defeat Sturt at Home

Both the South mens and womens teams defeated the sabres at marion tonight. The south women just getting over the top by three points. Wasn't a good night for Sturt men going down by 25 points to the panthers, 90-115.

Notorious,

Don't forget in the Men's game it was against a Sturt side with Gower, Bauer (P) and James-Martin, none of whom were "on song tonight". Then again probably on Darren would be close to happy with his game tonight.(30 pts, 8 rebounds) although Damian Scanlon had 31 pts, 4 rebounds & 7 assists. Pilkington with 16 pts & 24 rebounds, certainly gave Oscar some hurry up (19pts & 13 rebounds on 6/20 shooting).
Must mention Panthers 2/2 on 3's & 2/2 FT's, who said he doesn't have range, except the split-legged Bank Shot just before 3 quarter time was pretty ugly.
Any other results known as yet?

South get a good boost when playing at home and it seems to have worked last night. 55-54 at half-time and then the Sabres struggled after that.

Pilkington rebounded well and Scanlon had the hot hand, then the rest just filled in the gaps at a good clip -- South shot 45.4% to Sturt's 34.5%. The other difference was the boards: 72-47 is a massive edge.

I think this win from South keeps them in the finals hunt?

Credit to South for the victory. Sturt need to head back to the drawing board because they have been fading a bit in the second half.

I'd put Scanlon on the Hot/Not list twice this week. Hot for 31 points and 7 assists. Not for signalling a throat-cut at the Sturt bench as he ran past and say "it's over" -- you could learn from JB whose excitement was focussed more on the positives of celebrating with his team.

Probably worth noting that this is the second time that Sturt have let an opponent get the edge on overall points. Last week, Woodville got up by 13 (beating the 12 points Sturt beat them by the time before). This week, South's 25 point win surpassed the 21 point win Sturt had earlier in the year.

I didn't like the way that the game was called by the referees, but they did seem consistent at least, letting a lot of reaching and slapping go that frustrated both coaches.

Quote from the game:

Castle: "How long was he in there?! That was at least 8 seconds!"
Concierge: "I don't know."
Castle: "My point exactly!"

I must applaud South because I for one gave them no chance of being in the finals this year. It looks like now that they will.

They just have to be more consistent playing away from home.

Bravo.
