How many players in next AUS camp?

In the coverage last night Brett Maher said that a 16 man squad will be selected for the world cup camp, however I think there would be more than 16 players that Lemanis would want to take a look at. Is there another camp in between?

Regardless, just wondering how many players would people want to take into a camp? And who would those players be.

If only 16 and if all players are available the guys I would take would be:
Delly, Patty Mills, Ingles, Baynes, Bogut, Newley, Exum, Damian Martin, Goulding, Barlow, AJ Ogilvy, Andersen, Ben Simmons, Adam Gibson, Aleks Maric and Lucas Walker (purely based on this latest series and is the only player from the current series).

But I also think the following players could have a chance of making the team given different combinations needed at different times OR would be good for their development: Ryan Broekhoff, Nate Jawai, Cameron Bairstow, Brock Motum, Mark Worthington, Luke Neville, Hugh Greenwood and Thon Maker.

That has my squad at 24.

And opals have just released there next training squad for June camp, players returning from overseas are included in this next camp , but no Alice kunek, when you consider she did really well on the USA tour seems strange. But Tessa Lavey is in squad, seriously got to question Joyce's choice here!!

The Boomers squad is on the BA site.

Mills, Dellavedova, Exum, Gibson, Newley, Broekhoff, Ingles, Barlow, Simmons, Bairstow, Petrie, Anderson, Baynes, Jawai, Maric, Bogut.

Feeling is that Bogut won't be there, so Neville is the likely replacement.

There could be debate about some like for like eg.
Gibson v Greenwood
Broekhoff v Goulding
Simmons v Walker v Worthington
Petrie v Motum
Anderson v Johnson
Maric v Ogilvy

I'd like to see Motum and Walker (based on Sino Challenge) in the squad. Think Motum can offer more than Petrie and Walker is more ready for this stuff than Simmons who is a raw talent still at this stage in terms of Senior international basketball.

I don't rate Walker, a few games in Sino series won't change that imo.

Walker, Worthington, Simmons are relevant to the squad because they are swing forwards and that is an area of need.

Have PG, C covered. Our PGs also play the SG spot. Ingles locks down the 3 and we have big 4s like Anderson, Bairstow but without Worthington we need to find another swing forward who can defend the wing 3s and mobile 4s.

Squad on the BA site is from NZ series last August.

I think if fully fit, 8 locks for the team
Mills, delly, ingles, Baynes, Bogut, Exum, Newley, Andersen

I would go head to head for last 4 spots
Bench Shooter - Broekhoff Vs Goulding. I would take Broekhoff
Stretch 4 man - Barlow Vs Motum. I would take Motum.
Extra Big - Neville Vs Bairstow. I would take Bairstow
Extra PG - Gibson Vs D Martin. I would take D Martin.

may not need the extra PG and go with either another Forward or Big.

My team
PG - Delly / Exum / D Martin
SG - Mills / Broekhoff
SF - Ingles / Newley
PF - Baynes / Motum / Bairstow
C - Bogut / Andersen

I think you would take Jawai for his size and strength to compete with international bodies.

I have it pegged similarly to the last anon. The first 8 pick themselves and then you've got four slots for guys to fill roles off the bench.

I'd leave Barlow out of of the conversation altogether and make it a choice between Petrie and Motum for the stretch 4. I'd lean toward Petrie at this stage for his superior defence and experience, but there are some question marks about both that would be great to test against higher level competition prior to the World Cup.

I personally wouldn't take the 5th guard. I think Mills and Delly will play big minutes and Exum will soak up a lot of their rest time. My fourth guard would be the best specialist shooter I can find. Probably out of Goulding, Broekhoff and maybe Steindl who has been impressing me as of this year.

That leaves one slot and I'd give it to another shooter to give us an alternative should Ingles and Newley both struggle to spread the floor.

So my twelve would be:

Bogut/ Baynes
Andersen/ Bairstow/ Petrie
Ingles/ Newley/ Broekhoff
Mills/ Goulding
Delly/ Exum

The final adjustment would be if Bogut is unable to play and then I'd slot the best performer out of Jawai, Maric, Ogilvy or Nevill into the backup centre role behind Baynes.

I'm with Beantown there isn't any need for a 5th guard, Newley can play as shooting guard if needed.
I would still take Simmons as 12th man for the experience I know I'm in the minority with that call.
