I - Your old club probably didn't have the benefit of an amazing BSA / Adelaide Show society facility and offices and canteen and club area and loads of change facilities. Many BSA employees / staff part of your well connected club. They had the benefit as did Sturt as a result of the unfortunate raising of their stadiums to be given the gift of a new location. They are Centrally located to a wealthy private and corporate community in a prominent location.
Those clubs that are stuck with councils and corporate and local funding issues that are not dynamic have beaten up falling apart stadiums. It is no coincidence that Starplex, Pasadena, Rose Tce and Mars also have pretty great clubs and now some have their leadership moving forward are starting to show on court. The beaten up St Clair, Port Adelaide are parallel to difficulties in a poor environment. Souths should be commended in their ability to perform in the environment they have however they are able to tap in to the Schools at a young age from their school ball dominance. The Hills can tap in to two pools of kids and organisations BSA and Country and have a reasonable facility with a high profile being a leisure centre in a central hills community and country kids hook into their sport culturally. Morphett Vale has a pretty good facility but still building on its culture and merging, so has so much potential not realised yet, however in a region competing heavily culturally and financially with the outdoor sports...
Have some perspective… You sound like that dude on the MKR show - AWESOME……. who just doesn't get it. Be grateful all those not so AWESOME clubs are there to challenge you AWESOME ones or you would be playing on your own. Show some grace, look after your lower divisions as clearly after State Champs winning most titles still did not get the overall Club Champion.. Sturt must of had a number of seconds teams in Reserves and across the boards who still collected points for top 4 to achieve that and points allocated to them if they are strong. That is the depth of a club and why it survives despite everyone constantly bagging it, proclaiming it full of bullying, and rich kids who are elitists. That is quite far from the truth for the full depth of the club. You are looking at only one aspect of the club in the 1st and 2nd division. Look at its locality, is still collects players from lower socio economics. I am one of them, All clubs have their pockets of issues even the AWESOME ones. Nepetism is common in some. Imagine those Div 3 kids joy in having the opportunity to play State Champs and help boost Numbers overall and recognised that despite them not making Div 1 as a 2nd year then you will be recognised as worthy of playing champs in reserves. 1st years who should be in Reserves but often not so a club can collect those points in a club are also given the opportunity to develop and play against those stronger bigger teams to help them develop for their State Champs next year. Perhaps we should be asking how the hell did that happen and look at the depth that allowed it to. That was pretty AWESOME and something up coming clubs can aspire to. There were lots of pockets of AWESOME over the weekend from clubs and individual teams on the move and that made for a great State Champs with lots of surprises and amazing results from not so AWESOME clubs with many blessings and huge advantages. Lots of passion (yes refs - passion is what drives those supporters to step over the line so please match that passion in your chosen sport of reffing, get fit, improve and play by the rules too)……..That would be AWESOME….
