If Jack Watts and Ty Vickery played basketball...

Would they be as soft as Bogut?

Jack and Ty would have received decent D2 level college offers and became decent big v or seabl level basketball players.

I'm not a big fan of hypothetical sporting conversations unless it involves Len Bias, Andrew Gaze or Michael Jordan 1993/95 - 1994/95.

Andrew Gaze is on record as saying that Jack Watts would've been a Boomers player had he stuck with basketball. I saw him play when he was bottom age U16 and he was so damn good.

Wasn't Jack Watts considered 'so damn good' at football too before he was drafted?

Watts could potentially make more if he gets drafted into the WNBA

I think if Watts had stuck with basketball he would have been a solid NBL player but not a boomer.

In the wing position:

Ryan Broekhoff > Jack Watts > Todd Blanchfield.

Watts was THE best player in his age group growing up. Would have been a D1 Mid Major college target without doubt. Both Watts and Pendlebury would have followed similar paths in basketball and ended up in NBL and pushing for Boomers selection this year.

Ben Allen was also the best player in his age group and recruited to Indiana.

Softness generally catches up with players once they get past juniors.

Allen was not the best player in his age group, everyone saw his combination of size and mobility, and also a decent jumper, making him one of those coach killers that never fulfills their potential.

How come Bogut is soft ?
If he has broken bones should he play ?
Most players would not come back from the injuries he has had, let alone play again at the highest level.
I believe Watts would have been top level ncaa basketball player and also would have pushed for boomers squad

If he worked hard he would have played NBL, then who knows from there? Plenty of talented 6'4, 6'5 guys around he would have had to compete with.

Watts was a much better junior than Brad Newley, same type of player, look at him now.

If he was much better then Newley, why wasn't he at the AIS? Why wasn't he knocking back NBL offers or offers from nationally ranked ncaa schools?

If he was streets better then Newley and he saw the success Newley was having in Europe, getting drafted by the Rockets and representing his country you'd think he'd have made a different decision.

I'm guessing he didn't choose AFL for the love of the game as he plays as though he doesn't really like footy that much. He choose AFL because he made the decision that he wasn't as good as Newley and Ingles, etc and thought his prospects were better in that sport.

He wouldn't have based his decision on his views of two guts he has never even met...

Watts could really play. He was never soft.

Anon 680 who said he was not offered NBL or college just because you where offered does not mean you have to take it. In football he is money is there ie no 1 draft pic go to college and you might go somewhere after

Watts has more chance of winning Gold with Australia than Bogut.
Bogut has more chance of winning a Kleenex tissue commercial than Watts.

Bogut has broken ribs and guttless anonymous says he can win a Kleenex tissue commercial. The injuries he has had and still playing top level basketball to me that is the determination of the man.
