Joe Dumars to resign as GM
Probably should of been let go sooner. The GM can seem to hire and fire a revolving door of coaches but takes no blame himself.
Despite how things have turned out for the Pistons you have to give Dumars credit for the 2004 championchip.
The trading of Rip Hamilton for Jerry Stackhouse.
The drafting of Tayshaun Prince late in the first round.
The hiring of Larry Brown.
And the signing of Chauncy Billups were all master strokes.
But......
The trading for Grant Hill for Ben Wallace was complete luck. Wallace was an afterthought in the deal, nobody knew he would turn out to be so good. While Hill would be injuried his whole time in Orlando with a bloated contract.
The trading for Rasheed Wallace kind of just fell in his lap as well.
And the firing of Rick Carlisle was not Dumars decision.
Some Dumars clunkers:
Were the drafting Darko Millivic but also trading him before Ben Wallace was a free agent. When Wallace left, it would of open some minutes up for Darko.
- And the firing of Flip Saunders. The firing made no sense. If Joe Dumars wanted to rebuild, why not keep Flip? If you see the rebuilding job Saunders did in Minnesota during the Garnett years, then Flip was your man.
