Wallan Panthers Big V 2015?

Am hearing there could be an entry from Wallan in the D2 Mens comp next year. Lots of promising young players with a few that have played SYCM for Diamond Valley and a few who have played D1 and D2 Big V for clubs like Craigieburn and Coburg. Exciting times.

Hope we don't see the usual people on here bagging the lower levels of Big V. This is great for basketball in that region.

Will the entry be Big V Div 2 or YLM as Bacchus Marsh have been said to be doing?

Would it not be wiser to play in the country league first to get established and have those Big V players come back over the summer?

Don't you need a senior side to have YL?

Normally the first year in can be very tough but then you can get one or two older guys with experience in to go along with the group that by then will have a good years worth of experience.

In reality no different to GWS and Goldcoast in AFL. A good example of this will be Oakliegh D2M

That used to be the rule but i heard Bacchus Marsh are applying for Youth initially, also Altona women only have Youth this year.

You can have just Youth League now. Altona women and Corio Bay are both examples of this.

Youth League used to be regarded as a feeder to senior squads. However clubs that didnt have some form of senior program for junors to go into would lose them elsewhere.

Good initiative from the BIG V to allow this.

Big growth area would be good to see them put a team in....a number of there better juniors are forced to travel to Melb after 16's to play rep ball so hopefully it is a good pathway for them to return to play Big V.

Also pretty sure a couple of ex SCM/SEABL level guys live in Wallan so they could be the experience they need to help develop the kids.

Would be great for Big V to have a club in that area. Hope it happens!

How many Big V clubs/teams are there now? Seems like a huge league.

Given the amount of population growth out there one would think that it would be a priority for BV and the Big V to get that happening. Makes more sense than putting a new club in down the road from another club like they did this year.

Good luck to Wallan. Great to see these growing clubs enhance the Big V league. Hopefully we can start to see some of those other clubs like Collingwood, Bacchus Marsh, Doncaster and a few more of our Country Associations join/re-join the league.

Has the Big V discussed this?

just what the league needs. More weak clubs with poor junior programs and bad facilities. SO much for being an ELITE STATE COMP.

So Wallan was knocked back this year just gone?? Are they going to try to enter the Big V this off season?

Rapidly growing part of the state, be good to have a Big V team there to try to grow the sport.

No more new teams for a while.
League is becoming a joke

In what competition did they play and where did they come in it this year?

Expansion is good if done in the right areas. i.e. there was no need for another team 250 meters away from McKinnon or a 10min tram ride from Coburg.

Be smart about it and it would be a good thing.

I think they played CBL??? I have also heard they have a lot of their juniors playing senior basketball at other clubs because of the lack of opportunity

That team 10 mins from Coburg won't win many games this year but they are doing it right at junior level and spreading like wildfire.

Wallan's CBL men's team looks very very impressive!

A few guys with decent Big V experience in there and an ex SEABL player.

The club look well organised and the team will be well coached.

Good luck
