Not sure if they were made redundant but it's true they've been let go by the club.

Now they must be down to 3 staff in total, watch the club grow, not.
If the positions are redundant, then they can't be replaced. That begs the question of why they were there in the first place if true.

"The Townsville McDonalds Crocodiles are currently going through a restructure and two full time staff members have been made redundant. It was a tough business decision that is necessary to ensure the future of the Crocs into the 2014/15 season."

#142 you're suggesting that the roles that these people filled were NEVER required?

I'm sure the rest of the staff are adding to their own duties to cover the redundancies.
2 full time staffers lost, it's a lot to cover in the average NBL office.
None of you know the real story! The financial officer was made redundant after being brought across from Barrier a Reef Basketball. In the new restructure a board member will be carrying out those duties.
The Sales officer had the sales taken off them and given to Pat Reidy due to poor performance... So all that was left was media & game night. Those duties will be carried out by volunteers.
So clearly, this is a restructure to make the business more viable. It is a smart move to make sure they are getting value for their money. It is also a bigger step toward being a community club, ie utilising a large contingent of volunteers in the community to do a lot of admin work.
The downside of this is losing the voice of the Crocs and a very well respected person in the Townsville basketball community. But, if this is what is required to keep the team around, it is a small price to pay.
We now look toward the board of directors for more direction and a lot of action from them!
To quote Michael Douglas, "I'm no longer economically viable".
You know what redundancy means The situation.
If the crocs survived those positions financial officer and sales can't ever be reinstated.
It certainly seems that they were never required too if those positions are gone and others filling the gap The community model was never intended to be using volunteers in the office but maybe that's not a bad thing

I didn't think the community club model was named as such because it relied on volunteers.

Thats a bizarre conclusion - the notion that because a position has been made redundant then it was never required.
The more likely scenario is the organisation is in financial stress. They have basically said that from what i can gather.
And for whoever said using voluntary labour is another step toward being a community club is delusional. The community model is about ownership, not operations.
They might not be able to employ a Financial Officer, but they can always rename the job....maybe employ a Business or Operation Manager in the future.
A position made redundant CAN be filled again whenever the employer likes. There is NO LAW stopping this or stating any specific time frame the position should remain vacant. If the roles are filled again then its up to the individual who was terminated to lodge an appeal with FairWork Aust as each case is judged on its merits.
Before shooting your mouth off try doing 5 mins of research.

The Anonymous who posted at 10.53 last night, you need to take down your post before someone gets sued. The sales person is my cousin and did not have the sales taken off him due to poor performance. It was because of all the other portfolios he had as well. Ask the sponsors what they thought of him and they'll tell you how good he was. Everybody knows what a state the economy was and is in and that's no fault of his. The servicing was apparently given to Pat Reidy and the Board because my cousin was court commentating and could not get to the sponsors while the match was on. The question is, how many sponsorships were sold by PR and the Board after the change? Count them on one hand? As for staff left over, I'm told PR is the only office staff member other than the coaching and fitness staff and one or two volunteers.

Crikey!
With 17 staff in their office, maybe the Cats can lend out a couple to the Crocs for experience purposes?
Is that a record? Sounds like numbers from the old Kerry Stokes' days.
They have (or used to have?) the biggest volunteer group also. Being the envy of all clubs doesn't stop at what they do on the court.

285 (and whatever other anons you are), you have no idea what you are talking about.
Of course redundant positions can be filled again in the future, renamed or not. At this point in time those roles are not required. That's all.
No need to make it into something it's not.

Anon, you do realise that workplaces fluctuate in viability right? Nowhere in that link does it say once a role becomes redundant it can never be reinstated. That's ridiculous, and you clearly have no understanding of workplace laws let alone business operations.
And Anon #318 - are you insinuating that operational staff come out of the salary cap?
If the 'cats can employ 17 ops staff and turn a profit and run a successful club - which they clearly do - then all the more luck to them. It'd be great to see more teams in that position.
It would be great if other teams could draw 11000 people a game and employ 17 staff and make a profit.

Why doesn't reidy fire himself and ask himself to continue working full time as a volunteer for no pay?
Why are the female Wildcats employees dressed up like cabin crew hostesses.

Mick that sounds like a perfect idea. They'd save more money getting rid of Reidy. What are his quals anyway. Player, fashion shop that closed down, member coordinator of the lowest ticket numbers in the club history, general manager of a club that can now only afford one office person being him by the sounds of things-not a real good management resume.but what would I know, I'm a netball player from Brisbane.
Maybe those that think they know what's right should be in a position to know what actually happens rather than sprout what they think is right.

I'm just glad they haven't gotten rid of Shawn Dennis yet, he's a gem and hopefully his game style alone will bring the crocs fans back
