Wildcats @ Tigers Sun 2/2/14

Televised this arvo on Channel 10.

The rematch!

Judging by the success of our rematch with the Taipans the other day, the revenge factor isn't as strong with this Cats team right now as it used to be.
Sportsbet still have Perth as slight favourites ($1.74 vs $2.00) despite being on a 2-game losing streak and having lost to this same team at home last weekend.

I'm nervous.

I think Joey has this one for record on his DVD for later analysis.

Cats will win in what will be a crackerjack.

Head says Melb but heart says Perth. Can't see Perth losing 3 straight. Time for Perth to step up and show why they've been favourites most of the year. Cats by 3.

Big statement game for both teams. If Melbourne win they show they are a top tier team and put themselves within striking distance of first. If they lose the remain in that 'next group' capable of beating anyone but still fighting for spots.

If Perth don't win there are some definite concerns, but if they can hammer the Tigers they make a statement they are still the best. Hopefully a cracker.

I tipped Tigers by 1 earlier in the week, Perth losing in Thurs makes this tougher but Ill stick with my tip for no real reason than that's what I guessed earlier!!

No Goulding firing means no Tigers. If Tigers & Kings in playoffs you would think a lock for the grannie is Sixers & Perth. Might be more interesting if NZ & Cairns get in to the mix to usurp these dud teams.

Revenge only gets you so far... There are a couple of cats players out of form since christmas so if the tigers can start well and control the tempo then it will be a scrap and anything can happen. If the cats start well then they could very quickly rediscover their mojo and they wont be stopped

How many times do we need to be reminded that this competition is a roller coaster? Every single team has been on both good and bad streaks. Not one team has performed even remotely consistently this season.

Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and maybe even Cairns have all looked like the hottest team in the league at one point or another.

Don't write off Melbourne or Sydney ffs.

Perth played well.
I think that might have been the worst Tiger's game this season - shooting at 30% from field (3 from 20 in the second quarter!!) and 19% from 3 pointers
And please umpires some consistency with the charge rule - after that game I am very confused

The more I watch the tigers the more I'm convinced that certain starters honestly don't think they foul. Ever.

Tigers back to their old ways of constantly sooking. Every call Goulding was called for he sooked and sooked. Even that last call, clearly a charge, Jervis was outside the circle, feet set, yet he kept bitching about it even during and after the time out.

Tigers are full of individuals, Anstey is not a good coach, the tigers are under achieving, did so last year and again this year.

Cats back with a bang

Only Adelaide can challenge Perth this year! I do agree with Statsheet stuffer though no teams this year have truly dominated for significant stretches. Not missing Matt Knight at all.

when you are playing badly I think it seems that everything is against you - however I don't think the Tigers were "soaking" all game - and not so sure Jervis was outside the circle??

And the Tigers are a team and Anstey is a good coach - he is only coaching his second season against coaches who have a lot more experience - he was awarded coach of the month in December i think - so obviously some people think he is doing alright. Rather have him than Gleeson.

I don't think Goulding would've been too upset about the last charge call - I'm guessing he was more upset about the foul Damien Martin did on him prior to that move that didn't get called. Either way, it was poor form of Goulding to carry on the way he did once it was called and he was on the bench.

Yeah the Tigers looked terrible today. Turnovers were so bad just forcing the pass. Any team wouldve smashed the Tigers today. My program says that the Tigers now have two weeks off before hoasting Adelaide at home. Tough run for the Sixers as they are away @ the Gong next Sunday, then travel to Perth for the next Friday, then travel to Melbourne for the Sunday game. That's 10,000 + kms travel while the tigs sleep in their own beds. Tigers will be paying $1.30 for that game.

Oh hellz yeah. Cats are back in business.
For the first time since Christmas they looked like they meant business.

Plenty of sooking from both sides, which I'm not a fan of, but at the same time the refs just keep serving up reasons to sook. Not shocking decisions, but to me they're still struggling to establish overall consistency in their interpretations.
Not a factor today anyway. That was a nice convincing hammering.

Rules are set but are still up to the interpretation of the individual and varies with different people. The way things are going I can see the league turning into a style where the ball carrier goes straight past the d cos it is impossible to guard without a soft hands foul being called and dribble entry to a layup to draw a foul coz the refs have to "protect the shooter".
The game on Thursday v cairns was slow and boring coz the refs called every single soft foul. Let them play!!!!

The game on Thursday was sensational, I'll take that over a "freed up" game like last year's any day. Teams can still play great D without using their hands, they just have to go about it differently.

funny how lucas walker said when I cant remember who it was but he crashed into greg hire and no foul was called, greg hire was 1st to the ball and got hit in the head I think and no foul called, he said it was 2 guys going for the ball, what about the call late last week when Ennis and Goulding went for a lose ball and crashed into eachother and a foul was called on Ennis. Similar incidents

Anon @455290 not sure who was there today but from what I've noticed in the past I don't see why the GM should be at all away games. Eating up the budget for no reason.

Wildcats 36ers surely is the Grand Final. What a matchup that would be so much history in the rivalry yet have never played against one another in the big one.

It helps if you make a million dollar profit in bringing people on the road. It just seems ridiculous with the amount of people going though I can understand if it's a semi or final though

What business is of anyone's whether the GM goes to away games? The large contingent of red shirts was probably the supporters on the road trip. I'll check to see whether that was approved by the anonymous poster above.

The Wildcats have been advertising packages for fans to go to today's game for a couple of months now, which was ridiculously expensive. So it was quite the opposite of the Wildcats wasting money.

Uh the excess of red was due to a trip the Wildcats organised that corporate types could buy into.

Although the Wildcats do have, I recall being told, the largest entourage when they play away, this consists of assistant coaches, the conditioning guy, etc.

He didn't fly with the team, he was over there for testing last week.

It's been two weeks since he last played; I'd imagine he was cleared to fly. Although they flew him from Cairns to Wollongong the day after the initial knock, so who knows.

Matt Knight is seeing concussion specialists linked to AFL clubs in Melbourne, hence the reason he flew over. According to the comment made by Gaze.

I was a little disappointed when Adam Ballinger was interviewed that he suggested that the Tigers wouldn't have kept their 10 point margin to Perth anyway.

What type of attitude is that from such a great player?

I'm a little concerned about Melbourne, in their wins they are impressive to super impressive... In their losses you get a feeling like they are missing someone or something and sorry but Lucas Walker isn't that missing piece.

Tigers had what 100 dream team points and 86 of them were from ScoMo and Wortho... That is absolutely dreadful and I'm fairly certain that would be the lowest total dream team score for any club this season.

On a personal note, how awful was my guards for my dream team, Damo and Rotnei backed up by Goulding and Tomlinson... If be lucky to have 70 points between the 4.

I said it last night in another post but I'm fascinated at just who will be out of form this month as its really been a hit and miss season for literally every team and player

I agree Proud, the lack of consistency across the league is tough for us Dreamteamers. Ennis is probably the one exception, I think he's been the most consistent. Even when he has an off night he still gets 15 points or scrape together 30 odd DT points.

It's easier to be consistent if you play more games and train less. So the proposition to increase the no. of games per season is great but unfortunately to get there expansion needs to occur which seems to have flatlined.
