An idea to replace All-Star Games
Spotted this on r/NBA but it could potentially also work in the NBL one day.
4 teams of 8-10 players, drafted from a 32-40 player pool. If teams have only 8-9 players each, probably more ideal to have the game be 4 quarters of 10 minutes each. It's effectively a mini-draft and league. It'd be interesting to see how coaches or pundits drafted a team to maximise their chance at winning.
Players drafted onto each team in an ABCDDCBA format by Chuck, Shaq, Kenny, and Chris Webber, similar to how the Rising Stars game is drafted by Chuck and Shaq
Fans vote in 10 players (4 guards, 6 frontcourt players) that must be drafted
The remaining 22-30 players in the pool are selected by leaguewide coach voting. Similar to what is already done for the current ASG reserve spots, except they aren't limited to voting within their conference. Maybe you could also leave 4 spots in the pool open so that the drafters could select anyone they want that isn't in the pool.
During one of the first few days of ASB, have semifinal matchups: A vs. D, B vs. C
Cap off the last day of ASB with the winners of those two matches playing against each other for the AllStar Tournament Title
