Bairstow’s overnight success story

Nice write up about Bairstow & his improvement this year.

"Cameron Bairstow averaged 2.6 points and 1.8 rebounds as a freshman, 3.7/3.6 as a sophomore and 9.7/5.9 last season. Today, as the 9-3 Lobos prepare for their 18-game Mountain West Conference schedule, Bairstow leads the team in scoring with 20.1 points per game to go along with 7.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.4 blocks"

A great read it was / is! Grammer is a big Lobo fan and covers the Mountain West Conference.

Great story. Love what I've seen from this kid in a Boomers jersey. Any serious talk of him getting drafted yet? Draft Express only has a bare bones profile at this stage.

If he goes through the MW schedule like he did in non-conference, he will get drafted.

ESPN recently said Bairstow is a contender for most improved player of the year.
When they rated New Mexico's front court the 9th best in the Div 1.

"Cameron Bairstow, is a candidate for the nation's most improved player. He lit up the U.S squad in the World University Games this summer while playing for Australia and has taken that play into the season. He is more athletic in 2013-14, moving up and down the floor much more fluidly. Bairstow improved his face-up game and has become a better finisher in the post. It’s allowed him to be the leading scorer on the team with 20.6 points a game, up from just 9.7 a season ago."

I credit the sudden jump in his performance to his improved diet.

Los Pollos Hermanos going out of business has proven to be a big factor in reducing saturated fat intake in the New Mexico and adjacent areas.

I don't like the words 'overnight success'. This is a prime example of hard work paying off! Credit to not only Cam but also the coaching staff at New Mexico. Big future for this kid and this is only the start. Let's hope Hugh Greenwood can have a breakout season like this in his senior year next year, he was once talked up as an NBA chance and now is just seen as a role player.

Can't wait to see what the future holds for Australian Basketball.
