Is Anthony Bennett already a bust?

Chad ford on Anthony Bennett "It's very early, but right now, he's looking like the worst in the past 20 years," Ford

But Bennett can't take all the blame, alot people view the 2013 draft as one of the weakest drafts of all time.

Bennett should be noted is overweight after recovering from a shoulder injury. Maybe once he gets in shape he might look like the player the CAVS chose him first pick in the draft? Early signs don't look good though.

Yes so far he doesn't look good but give him some time. The #1 pick for the 2013 draft was a difficult one to pick.

He is not going to be a superstar imo but I would give him time to get over his injuries and find form he could end up being a valuable role player.

He is very young and coming off injury.
He is an example of a raw kid cashing in on draft stock rather than getting a full education in college.
Some can handle the jump but 99% of North American kids need 4yrs of college to be ready for pro basketball.

Crazy pick really but his college stats do look ok.
I read he has asthma really bad too so really struggles for fitness as gets gassed really easily.

wrong team. he got drafted by a team with 3 guys already ahead of him in the big man pecking order. crazy drafting.

He's likely a bust

You don't use your #1 pick to draft a role player. As a top 3 pick you are expecting to be a star to be worthy of the pick (although you won't exactly be labeled a bust for not been a star but unworthy IMO).

Hence I never believe Bogut is worthy of a #1 pick, somewhere between 5-10 seems to be more reasonable.

I also read Bennett may just be even bigger of a bust than Greg Oden, Oden at least 'looked' like a #1 pick player when healthy. Going to be interesting to see how Bennett's career pans out.

The point is that Bennett right now looks like the least impressive 1st round pick out of them. Chad Fords claim that he could be the worst in the last 20 years might not be a stretch.

He's averageing 2.3 pts and 1.9 rebounds a game. And while some may argue that he is only playing 10 minutes a game- he missed he's first 16 shots before he was finally able to sink he's first field goal. For a first pick in the draft that is just unheard of.

Also in the video if you notice he seems to be a tweener. He is not tall enough to be a power forward, but he does not seem quicker enough to be a small forward. The only move he seems to have is jacking up jumpshots from the wing, and it's not very effective as none of them are falling.

From all accounts he's a good kid, hope he gets it together and proves me wrong.

ESPN also did a redraft article as well:
Giannis Antetokounmpo is a interesting choice.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Who'd go No. 1 in a 2013 redraft?

If the Cleveland Cavaliers could do the 2013 draft all over again, it's safe to say there's a good chance they wouldn't take Anthony Bennett with the No. 1 pick. But who would go No. 1 in a re-draft, if there was such a thing, based on what we know from the first two months of the NBA season? ESPN Insider Chad Ford recently weighed in on that question.

In a recent SportsNation chat, Ford listed his top three as the following:
Giannis Antetokounmpo
Victor Oladipo
Michael Carter-Williams

Two things are pretty shocking about this. For one, the way Antetokounmpo has skyrocketed to the top of Ford's list after being regarded as someone who'd need 2-3 years to adjust to the NBA game. His ascent has just happened so many faster than most anyone expected, and Milwaukee really appears to have struck gold with the No. 15 overall pick.

The other thing that stands out is that none of the top three come from the group of Alex Len, Otto Porter, Ben McLemore, Cody Zeller and Nerlens Noel -- all rumored at one time to be in the running for the No. 1 overall pick

If there was a redraft - what player would you take as the number 1 pick based on what you have seen so far this NBA season.

Victor Oladipo would be my pick.
MCW would be up there, but appears to be injured a lot.

Side Note:
Would Steven Adams be a top 10 pick?

Agree with you Bear.
He should start next year instead of Perkins.
He's also doing better than Alex Len who was taken with Pick 5.

We will have to wait & see how Nerlens Noel turns out before saying Adams is the best centre in 2013 draft.

When Adams gets a little more intensity and a few more dunks into his game, plus rebounds and put backs he will be well ahead of Noel, IMHO...

Both are still learning their craft in the 5 spot, but Adams has the physique to keep Noel in check!

Also, add Bairstow to the potentials for next year or the year after if he keeps improving, having an excellent year with the Lobos and really turning heads, could easily be an NBA draftee in the future...

He appears to be in a similar position to Bennett.

Steve Adam's is just doing exactly what Scott Brooks has asked him to do, bring energy, run the floor, set picks, box out & rebound & protect the rim.
He's trying to earn his minutes and the trust of his Coach & teammates.
If he was playing for a team that wasn't a contender with the luxury of 2 of the best players in the league he would see more touches offensively and have more free reign on the court but he doesn't so he's playing within Brooks system and by all accounts is doing well.

OKC was the best place for him to land IMO. He gets the chance to learn off Collison (NBA version of D.Boucher) and bang with Perk and Ibaka and soak in Durant & Westbrooks excellence and possibly get a ring.

Adam's is only going to get bigger & stronger in the NBA environment also, which is scary. He could prob already throw Nerlen's Noel a fair distance.

Anthony Bennett is playing like a late second round pick at best. He is a bust plain and simple. I would say about a fifth of the number 1 picks mentioned are busts but bennetts got to be up there with the biggest.

Nah Bennett is no good... but on the MAYBE he gets better, still has more upside than Delly. Dont forget Delly has already pretty much peaked at what he can offer an NBA team, his key is too keep it up!

The whole draft was a bust. Cleveland should have tried to trade the pick OR trade Dion Waiters to someone who wanted a guard so they could have taken Victor or MCW. They weren't going to draft a guard since they already had Kyrie and Waiters (taken pick 4 ... another dud).

They really need a SF and therefore if they had the pick the best SF was Giannis Antetokounmpo. But that could have turned out as bad as Darko Milicic.

I reckon they should have tried to trade the pick for someone like a Luol Deng, Wesley Matthews, Danny Green or Demar DeRozan. Now I think none of these players are worth a number 1 pick but all would have been better options than Anthony Bennett and those teams would excel with Victor or MCW.

I think the Cavs wanted to trade the pick. The problem was most teams knew heading into the draft that this draft was a stinker, and the CAVS first pick was not of as much value as some might think.

Bennett doesn't look that interested which i think is a bigger problem than his current numbers.....He could be a solid rotation player in the league as a "tweener" if he works hard gets back to full fitness and gets his confidence back.

That said plenty of guys get "paid" then sit back i think it will just happen(i.e Bynum)

In terms of Delly he is getting the best out of himself with great bball smarts and fundamentals as this is whats getting him minutes ahead of more athletically talented players.
I think Delly could become a solid off guard if he can get his 3 ball to drop consistently he could really have a solid NBA career so fingers crossed the chips keep falling his way...(i.e they trade Waiters for picks/cap relief so delly keeps getting burn this year)

Otto Porter's stats are misleading. He is only playing garbage time right now.

He was injured most of the season, then came back into a team where his position (SF) is being held by guys who are having unexpectedly good years.

Ariza is having a career year, and Martell Webster is shooting efficiently and is good value for minutes off the bench. And with injuries to Porter and Beal, both Ariza and Webster have had plenty of minutes to shine.

If he gets a chance for bigger minutes, or maybe even starting, he will bring his stuff. He probably won't ever be a superstar, but he has so many facets to his game, he will succeed IMO.
