Suzy Batkovic Townsville Fire - Experiment Worked?

Has the Suzy Batkovic to Townsville Fire experiment worked out yet? It's still reasonably early on in the WNBL season but it would be fair to say that Suzy is not producing to the level that she has done so with the Lightning in the last 2 years. The shuffle cut offense which the Fire run is not conducive to Suzy's strengths & kind of go together like 'Toothpaste & Orange Juice'! Which is contributing to Suzy's very poor shooting percentage so far in the WNBL season!

Thanks for your post, Peter B. I don't believe there is any cause for concern.

I think you'll find that her shot chart in games is showing a lot of shots around the basket that aren't falling yet. The Fire have lost 3 games by 2 made shots or less.

If a couple of shot attempts rolled in, knowing she's getting good looks at the basket, she could be having 25-27 pt games and the fire could be 6-0.

Would we still be having this conversation then?

Too early to say - to be successful this season teams will have to change their game plans over the season.

Suzy played well but was not successful in Adelaide either because they never won or even made the grand final, maybe Townsville being not so reliant on her (as Adelaide were) will prove to be a success.

Saw Suzy play two game in melbourne and her shooting was terrible. If/When they start to fall watch out!!!

Story of her career unfortunately. Dominant player in a lot of ways but still after this much experience and top level play is extremely dicey on layups and short chippies around the basket.

Anonymouse - we must deal with reality & the facts is Suzy is only averaging 17pts game (not 27pts game) & the Fire are 3 Wins & 3 Losses (not 6 Wins) & her shooting percentage is terrible ATM. Her recent form & that of the Fire is why we are having this conversation now. I'm sure Suzy & the Fire can turn it around this season, time will tell...
