Tigers injuries: Dennis out for the season, Greer 3 months

Stephen Dennis snapped his Achilles tendon and is out for the season.

Also Tommy Greer tore his Pectoralis tendon and is out for 3 months.

Both these injuries are horrible news for the Tigers and the league.

Shame for the Tigers and NBL. Tigers will struggle to not finish last now. Weird there has been a small trend of Achilles injuries recently with Martin, Muo and now Dennis.

A shame for both Dennis, Greer and the Tigers as Dennis was looking good preseason and Greer is a crucial role player for Melbourne.
Melbourne will need to find a gun guard to replace Dennis!

Leon Henry recently had a trial with an NBA D-League team. Bit of a stretch, but good on him for having his hat in the ring.

Three massive blows for the Tigers. Could you knock out three bigger players for them, other than Worthington? A lot of people hate on Greer, but he's their Boucher - I think there's a reason he's been captain and started through the pre-season.

Horrible situation, especially for an import coming out here for the first time.

Massive hit to the Tigers. 14 days to go before the season starts. That's not much time to get a replacement.

How about a former import? What Julius doing?

Aquille Carr would have been exciting!

Too bad he is signed in China.

Could get a player like Akeem Wright or Antoine Tisby.

And could try very hard to get Exum!

Its bad enough losing a point guard but trying to find a player that fits your style is not going to easy.Alot of Euro leagues are starting shortly so the talent pool is a little smaller.

Daammm, that pretty much shatters the Tigers chances.

Feel for the players this close to the season, hope they both make a speedy recovery.

From a fans point of view, pity we didnt get to see Dennis play in the season proper, he looked to me as if he would/could dominate the league.

I hope they make a speedy recovery and we see them on the NBL court sometime in the future.

For team balance point of view i hope the Tigers replace Greer with a guard, whats Daniel Dillon, Rhys Carters availability, fans say these 2 are out of the league due to points cap, now there is a spot for them.

Rhys Carter won't come back, he's already got gainful employment elsewhere (that didn't have crazy arbitrary points caps).

They should roll the dice on Exum and see what he can do.
At the least he will be an excitement machine, but he could go nuts with the new contact rules and avg 10 FTs a game.

Big risk reward for Exum as well, if he does well and leads the team he would be almost guaranteed a top 3 pick in the NBA draft.
If he plays poorly it could drop him to pick 10-15.

Rhys Carter not coming back has little to do with point cap, it is more about his wife being close to family with the pending birth

You know your in trouble when people are wondering about Corey williams whereabouts on your teams behalf! Not good for the league, having them struggle again.

Good point about number of achilles injuries. Let's not forget Mitch Creek and also Ed Millard in the CABL. Is something fundamentally changing with shoes or training regimes or is it just a coincidence

Tommy greer no big lose in my opinion, was an average seabl player at best, timing not great though!

Dennis looked good but hoepfully they can find a replacement, they should not just grab the first guy they find even if he misses the first couple of games.

It maybe more appropriate that they sign a guard to replace Greer, if they do surely Tom Daly has to be that guy.

Macdonald as short term cover until they can get a suitable replacement import PG, however They have a major weakness at the 2/3 now with walker also struggling and Greer gone & Golding out for first few rounds so they might roll a short term 2/3 import scorer and then look for an import pg once goulding is back they allowing Macdonald to go back to teaching.

Ie

(First 4 weeks)
Tomlinson/Macdonald
Import/odgie
Worth/walker
Balls/worth
Morrison

Then

Import/Tomlinson
Goulding/odgie
Worth/walk
Balls/worth
Morrison

Guess it depends on talent available in the import ranks and the faith in Tomlinson but I think it can work

Tough break for the Tigers. Dennis was looking great in preseason and Greer has some serious leadership that will be missed.

Interested to see who they get to replace Dennis.
