NBA to launch Australian site including weekly free game?

According to sources with knowledge of the situation, the National Basketball Association are in the midst of finalising the launch of an Australian based official NBA website.

The Australian website will become the 15th regional website, joining the current suite of sites for Africa, Brazil, China, Germany, Spain, Latin America, France, Greece, India, Italy, Japan, Korea, Philippines & Turkey.

A great draw of the Australian NBA site will be that it will be video heavy & will show 1 FREE live NBA game per week. It is understood that the game will be one of the TNT Thursday Night games.

The website will reportedly be managed by Perform Media & it is understood that the site will launch on the 10th October.

Interesting to see Perform are the local partner.

Surely if the NBA are looking at doing this for free we can get some connection between the NBL and the NBA to help us foster the sport here?

For those of us with ESPN, that's a third game a week! Very happy!

You mean a 4th game a week... ESPN will show 3 games a week. A Thursday game & a Saturday double header.

ESPN and the NBA have reached an agreement to deliver Australian and New Zealand sports fans more NBA regular season and playoffs coverage. The agreement provides ESPN with an additional 10 regular season games in the 2012-13 season and then a total of three regular season games each week in the 2013-14 season.

I haven't heard anything further with regards to the first launch date that I heard of October 10th... I'm trying to find out if it's still going to launch tomorrow or if/when the new proposed date is.

If you want to see what it may potentially look like. go to NBA.de the NBA's official German website. Perform created & manage that too, plus show 1 game a week FREE there.

It has launched today. Perform is managing the website and they will offer one live stream of a game per week for FREE!

You can tell it is run by Perform because of the awful loading times for videos.

Visited this morning and there was not a mention of any Australian player on that front page anywhere. Read the announcement in case that talked them up, but nothing there either.

At this point, other than a free streaming game, surely you're better off just going straight to ESPN's NBA site or NBA.com.
