Coaching in a Fishbowl
Fantastic conversations on this forum and i notice that there are many suggestions to what the centrals women need to do to improve now I want to introduce the catch 22 that is south australian basketball.
Using the Centrals women as the model...
The team is struggling and has for a long time, a) the coaching is the problem - Centrals have brought in a qualified coach that seems to be doing a great job in developing players and making the team more competitive although still not getting over the line, nevermind that the team is 20ppg better this year and the improvment is ongoing.
b) the players are not to standard of the ABA comp - Centrals have a lineup that consists of 7 junior players most of who are in their first season in the league I think we should give them some time to develop.
c) throw money at some better players and bring the standard up (post # 37439)- if this is done then Centrals is accused of buying a team.
Has anyone asked Glenn what his long term plans are? maybe he has the situation in Centrals women under under control and maybe the only way to improve the program without buying a team is to develop a program that players want to be involved from the bottom up.
I know first hand that Glenn has cut some veteran players that were unfit to play at this level, and I know that he has turned away players from other clubs that just wanted a game, this in itself is a positive step for the women up north that their coach is holding them to a higher standard and not disrupting the flow of the development.
Glenn press on... your supporters are out there and the players will come when they see your dedication and desire to build a program that your club can be proud of and when the wins come (and they will) your coaching ability will not be questioned.
