Salary caps/team budgets in the WNBL?

Correct me if I am wrong but there is no salary cap in the WNBL? Why?

What would different clubs player budgets be?

Surely there are some teams spending much more than others due to no salary cap?

What sort of income would WNBL players be getting? Across the board, stars and bench players? Surely the franchise players are on 30k yeah and bench players/role players 10k +

Some WNBL players are earning 6 figures.

Imports would be on $40K minimum.

Without "naming players" what sort of athletes would be attracting 6 figures in your opinion?

That's ALOT of money

money is just one reason people should be motivated to - but if it is just money, we all know the story.

for example our league is know to be one of the best competition wise - but not high paying - same with wnba.

to me that is a cool thing playing for other things but $

getting a tidy $ is ok but only if it is going.

Jackson is on $200K per year over 5 years.

Batkovic $100+
O'Hea $100+

It would be kind of entertaining if Lauren Jackson is now earning more than any single NBL player.

Back to the original question ... no, no salary caps in the WNBL.

That's one of the structural issues ... with no constraints, it ends up about the ability of each program/team to raise $$ (mainly through sponsorship, or government funding) to fund player payments.

Not a level playing field ...

She may well be. Her WNBL contract is $1M for 3 seasons (though this coming season is not one of those 3 seasons). She earns considerably more than that per season in Europe.

Poor West Coast Waves must have a small salary cap every year, why don't the Wildcats help them with some cash and field a quality team, this would help the Waves with extra members & sponsors which would help the club make more money.

If this is the case, Bendigo (for example) must get some great supporting cash from their venue, poker machines etc...

Other Associations may not be so lucky, obviously relying on sponsors, especially if they do not control their own destiny/venue.

Interesting how the WNBL's structure, policy and rules regarding financials differs from the NBL, isn't it?
