The media and general public are going semi mad up here in QLD for the NRL state of origin, so it got me wondering about bringing back the AFL state of origin.
How viable is it?
Wish we could have basketball state of origin but dreaming I know.

I like the idea. Even a round robin between SA, WA and VIC.
I think hold it early pre season or as a mid season break.
I know AFL is pretty hard on the body so possibly look at a 2 week mid season break of the afl. In which there is a mini tournament of this fashion:
Round 1: Thurs Night everyone plays everyone in the NAB format of 20 min halves.
Round 2: Monday Night again everyone plays everyone, same format!
Final: Friday Night, full game between the top 2.
Gives a reasonable break between games and possibly allow an extended bench for these clashes to prevent injury!
I agree with 3baller and do it 2 weeks before round 1.
By my count there are 4 south Australians in the NBL season

it was always sa v vic but then came the money and worry that injuries might affect player payments.
the afl moved away from that and that killed everything ted whitten stood for. no lnger a legacy for these two teams to play each other.
now its only the sanfl and victorian league that continues that fight.

You can't top the EJ Whitten game guys, that's our AFL state of origin...
Much more fun and entertaining than the NRL version and without the boxing!
Oh, on that, WTF are the NRL Origin comentators on? Blokes come in and blatently throw punches at one another, landing quite a few by the way and then when they rightly get 'sin binned' the draconian attitude of the TV comentry is that a bit of biff is okay...
I'm glad my kids play hoops, any hint of a punch thrown and you are ejected, put on report and likely our for the year, or longer!!
I agree bear I can't stand league. Strictly AFL and hoops for me
