Hurley to short-list 36ers coaching applicants

Not Hurls from the infamous half-court shot...

"Our aim was to have it (signing a new coach) done by the end of the month.

"Two weeks is the end of the month."
Parker said the club had not yet arranged an interview panel for Marty Clarke's successor but had enlisted the aid of former Boomers and NBL championship coach Adrian Hurley to short-list the applicants.
Full story from Boti

Free agency open-season starts two weeks from the championship being decided. We have about a week and a bit to go.

As Boti says, if the 36ers can keep Gibson and Creek, free agency is not as crucial. If not, then it's a bigger deal.

Half-court Hurls would have been interesting? Or is he going for the coaching job?

Long way back from an Achilles and at 5ppg if Creek walks (or hobbles) no biggy.

Was the photo on the website taken moments after Marty Clarke announced he thought his contract was going to be renewed?

Would be great if Adrian coached rather than selected.

Smyth will definitely think he's in with the Dr's appointment. Watch all the footy knobs who are on radio go into overdrive now banging the Smyth drum. Smyth will be calling in all his owed favours.

I wouldnt mind seeing a Maher, Arsego, Smyth coaching team, brings back a couple of well known marketable faces, club legends and passionate SA/36ers people.

Also some good experience among the group to support Maher as rookie coach.

Cant be worse than what we had the past couple of seasons.

I still hope the club does go through a process to ensure they are the best available coaches.

Just get on with it and select someone and preferably with experience with Brett as a assistant .
Do not do not want to see Smyth in any coaching role as had his day and treated last years too casually helping the slide.
But Donald duck and Goofy could do better that dynamic duo that has put our club on its knees.

Maher as an assistant i'm ok with, not as the main guy straight away. First i don't want people to turn on a legend if it does not work out, and second i'm done with rookie coaches. Proven Vet coach please.

Overkill and waste of money, surely. Do other clubs have coaching directors or just coaches who can deliver wins?

Some of you people on here seriously have no clue of what went on or goes on.Perhaps before blaming Smyth for the Mal era you may want to ask the SOS owners how difficult Mal was to deal with and how poorly things were run.Maher would definately work with Smyth spoke with him a few weeks back and he speaks highly of him. However his agent Bell is running around telling anyone and everyone that Maher has the job bagging Smyth at the same time very unprofessional.Just ask a couple of coaches high profile ones who were going to apply one from Qld who Bell told not to bother cos Maher has the job.He is now applying as this is not the case. Can we stop believing the people with agendas and just appoint the best coach a proven one please.Wright,Smyth or Beveridge would be great.

Maher will not work with Smyth in a coach/asst. coach capacity. As long as my arse points to the ground that is the way it will be.

None of those rubbish comments saying we couldn't do worse than the last 3 years. Clark and Radford have not been tolerated until the end of their contract only to be satisfied with anyone who will be better. This is the perfect opportunity for the club to select well and get it right. Nothing less will be acceptable. If this club is a business that wants to thrive, it has to satisfy its supporters.
