Oh crumbs.
Wildcats did prove the can beat NZ without him though so hopefully the other guys step up and get it done for him!

The Hawks were pretty competitive down three starters. I'm sure Perth will be fine.

That sucks for Perth. Was/and still am really rooting for them. Don't want that championship going to NZ again. Going to be really hard now. Martin was their heart and soul. One of my favourite players and i'm a sixers fan.
Is this three years in a row now that injuries to the wildcats have handed a championship to NZ?
Nothing is ever handed you have to fight for it

NZ don't recruit players with injury clouds hanging over them. Is that their fault?

Right when us Breakers fans thought Rob Beveridge had no excuses this time Martin gets injured. When we win, Bevo will be like We didn't have Martin!

All good, don't count out the cats. Lucky we got carter, we prob gain on offence but martin is a big part of the cats. I still think they can beat nz no doubt they can and this gf is for damo! Well done on both teams for reaching the gf, wouldve been nice for both teams to go in injury free.

Mystro,
Pretty sure Perth didn't recruit Martin this year with an injury cloud over him?
Bugger, bugger, bugger, bugger!
We are in it deep unless Cedric decides to play on a trampoline or trip over his suitcase.
Well, Rhys Carter now has a chance to write himself a permanent position in the history of the Wildcats. Let's see if he can take it. He has been doing some great stuff but needs to sort his shooting out again. Bartlett picked an excellent time to remember how to shoot, though.
Well, I've been pretty certain this was going to be a Breaker's three-peat since the Vector Arena game when it became clear we weren't going to catch up for HCA. This just makes it a little more depressingly certain.

" He has been doing some great stuff but needs to sort his shooting out again"
As Brendan J0yce said so insightfully during game 2, Carter is one of those guys that is either going to make the shot, or he is going to miss.
As opposed to what, sending the shot into a parallel dimension? Oy vey.

Unfortunate injury, but no means handing over a championship. That's a cop out, nobody except martin in the wildcats have leg injuries. Half the breakers play with strapping of some sort every game. That's how you win a championship, heart , sweat, blood, tears and a crazy amount of belief. CJ lasnight played like the legend he's going to be, clutch plays, the steals, drawing fouls, even though he's passed his prime. But he came up big for NZ!
Wildcats will have a more solid defence but on the break, transition , can they hold out Jackson, Abercrombie, Webster? Can they defend the speed without fouling? With every final, there's a moment when every team tries to takeout a player from the opposite side. Cheers that's all IMO!
No disrespect for perth but NZ play a viewer pleasing style of basketball , end to end and exciting
"That's a cop out, nobody except martin in the wildcats have leg injuries."
...yair, okay...
I mean, Matty Knight wouldn't know anything about injuries to those pesky lower appendages.

"Mystro,

Yet they did re-sign Redhage and Knight with known injury issues and Martin hasn't exactly been injury free over the last couple of years nor has Lisch yet they still took the gamble.
Yeah, but you've apparently got an entire team of Egyptian mummies with strapping all over. *huff*

You don't refuse to re-sign players who have niggling injuries. Blaming the Wildcats when offering contracts, for the disappointment in not having a full strength squad for the GF is ridiculous.
Year 1: Early season injuries conspire to mean a fast finishing NZ just miss the finals. Perth beats Wollongong 2-1 in the Grand Final.
Year 2: Redhage/Knight injuries stop Perth winning enough games to avoid NZ in the Semis. Inspired Kirk Penney shooting sends Perth packing. NZ beats a full strength Cairns.
Year 3: The Battle of the Walking Wounded: Both sides enter the Grand Final carrying injuries to key players but still manage to play out an NBL classic.
Year 4: Damian Martin goes down with an achilles injury in the 2nd Semi Final.
Are we destined to never see these two teams play out a GF series at full strength?

you also don't win championships it would seem without your best players.

Would you have preferred that the Breakers didn't re-sign Vukona and Bruton when they did, as they have had significant and/or ill-timed injuries in the past few years?
Keep in mind, we are talking about recruiting, not using hindsight to say that these players got themselves injured.

Vukona played through his niggling injuries and has had no major long term injury, CJ is old and has 5 rings.

I'm using my rusty recollections and a water bong so I'm prob well off the mark.

Never a truer word spoken.
Martin played on one leg during last years finals series. Does that mean they should have gotten rid of him because he is injury prone? Redhage also came back strong from that horrific hip injury. There is always a risk but injuries are usually just bad luck.
