Australian College of Basketball Open Day

For anyone living in Melbourne who is unsure what the Australian College of Basketball is all about, they are hosting an Open Day on Wednesday 10th April. A great opportunity to get some real information on what is delivered.

The College has also recently announced that it will be accepting female athletes for the first time this July.

See below for details:

The Australian College of Basketball (ACB) will be holding an open day on Wednesday April 10 at its campus within the Melbourne Sports & Aquatic Centre (MSAC), in Albert Park, Victoria.

The College is the first of its kind in Australia, delivering the highest quality performance training and education to selected elite basketball players, both male and female, through our innovative Diploma of Sport Development program.

Enrolment at the College has exploded in this, our second year, as more and more young players from around the country have become aware of the two-year, full-time program, with Guy Molloy as Head Coach.

Guy is highly respected for his development of young athletes, including coaching the Australian Under 17 Men's Team to a silver medal at the FIBA World Championships.

We will be holding a series of scheduled tours throughout the day to allow you full access and see what the ACB is all about.

The tour will include:
• Introduction to the College and the High Performance pathway
• Hear from Director of Coaching Coach Guy Molloy and expert staff in the fields of High Performance and Strength & Conditioning
• Facilities tour, including:
o Show courts,
o High Performance Training Centre
o Student Lounge
o Lecture Rooms
o Massage & Physiotherapy room
• Witness live skills session and drills demonstration
• Question and Answer session

Please email [email protected] or call 1300 859 880 to book a space in one of the day’s tours.

Places are limited for each tour so register your interest early to avoid missing out.

Is this the program which charges you through hex debt?
Any info on which players have attended this program and went to the NBL or college overseas?
Thanks in advance.

The program is only in it's second year, and is a two year Diploma, so there have been no "graduates" as yet.

o Show courts seems like an insufficient number. There should at least be 1 show court I reckon.
o Lecture Rooms is fair enough though. No one really goes to college for lectures.

what if Molloy gets the opals gig?

If Boti's mail is correct then it sounds like Molloy wasn't one of the 3 people interviewed for the Opals job.
He seemed to be implying that Phil Brown, Brendan J0yce, and a WNBA coach who I'm guessing would be Seattle's Brian Agler, were the 3. (Heaven help the Opals if option #2 ends up in charge of them!)

During the open day will the rumours be put to rest about the program.

Players being invoices more than agrees on

Sundanese players being charged $15,000 more than other players

All lecturers not being acredited so that the qualification and the hex component are null and void.

These are just a few rumours flying around, few players are very aware if this and more and have quit the program.

There has been a massive clean out at this organisation, and I would be hoping that everything is back on track.

I attended this college lots of promises made like cameras to film us never happened administration in Adelaide hid behind the coaches we never saw them. Our training gear we were promised at the start of the year arrived mid year.On induction day we were told by some lady the fee for 2 years was $45,000 better check that out if you going cos its heaps more. The coaches were terrific every ones game improved heaps. The discipline off and on court was amazing this year players are turning up pissed to training after big nights. They bring in 3 new coaches and we are all going backwards. We feel like where at under 16 training.Coach Guy was no good at Cairns and no good at Ballarat we checked him out may be ok with players under 17 but we are all past that stage the other coaches are worse. We were told this was an elite program ha they are taking any player at any level this was elite now its about making money. The gym is a dirty no one cleans up cos no one cares.More administrators and recruiters less good coaching get rid of admin and bring back the elite coaches not the D team I will not be returning when my year runs out nor will a lot of us.

They cant and they have not. Going to this con factory effects college eligibility so DO YOUR HOMEWORK before signing up to a huge HECs debt.

This has severley effect Molloys credibility in the BB comunity.

Firstly for that qualification you get you can actually go to most local tafes and get it for 600 dollars in 1 year. And roughly 2k if you do not own a healthcare card.

Secondly, This is the 2nd intake of players if Im not mistaken. I think from memory they say its about 40 athletes per intake ( could be wrong ) so thats give or take 80 athletes that have gone into a huge amount of debt and Im yet to see a single athlete go to a college in the states.

Not to mentions they are all doing the same lame dipshit course in Sports Management which leads to absolutly nowwhere. Most of these kids will end up owing tons of money, play BIG V D2 and work part time at COsco restocking shelves.
