I admire Waverley for this sort of stuff.

They are an association that has really performed poorly in the long run, with little credibility and not a lot of respect around Melbourne - swapping coaches, buying teams, losing players en masse, people interfering in games, very little junior success etc - lots of innuendo.

But at least they have different path to attempt to move out of the mire here, with a proactive approach based on technology. I know they have had electronic scoring for a long time now, so I am not sure that all this stuff is proving that successful, but at least they have a strategy, and it is different, and someone should give them some wraps for that.

A big weekend at Waverley this week.

We kick off on Friday night with the China U19 Women's team taking on our u18's in an exhibition game @ 7.00pm AET

Saturday sees the VYCW Falcons taking on Ringwood Hawks @ 8.00 pm AET. Ringwood has been through the struggles of bringing through young players and is now showing the benefits. Waverley is now in the position Ringwood was two seasons ago. Hopefully our girls can find the way to take it up to the more experienced Hawks.

On Sunday, a big Double header. At 12.30 the SCW Falcons will be challenged by Eltham who are desperate for a win. Look for the showdown between Ardossi and Munro! Then at 2.30 pm The BigV Match of the round sees Diamond Valley visit the Falcon's Nest for a crack at their ex-coach Andy Sherwood's SCM Falcons. The Waverley boys are coming off a thrilling overtime win against Ringwood last week and will be keen to apply the blowtorch to DV's title ambitions.

Make it to the stadium or follow the action on FalconsTV www.mindittv.net/wba

This weekend at Waverley sees a Motlen Victorian Youth Championhip Thriller weekend. Both Waverley Mens and Womens teams participate in the first u23 double header of the season against cross town rivals Kilsyth beginning at 12.30 pm. So far the season has been one of contrasting fortunes for the two Falcons teams. The Women are still looking to find the winning formula whilst the Men(2.30 pm), sitting on top of the ladder, went down in a close tussle with Hawthorn last weekend and will be hungry to make amends Sunday. Kilsyth will be keen to close out both games. If you can't be at the stadium, watch on line at www.mindittv.net/wba

A great night out at Broadmeadows. The Waverley State Championship Women took it right up to Hume and lost by three in a thrilling game, whist the Champ men were simply dominant over the Broncos boys. Don't forget to get to the stadium to watch the Falcon's Youth teams take on Kilsyth starting at 12.30 pm. If you can't make it catch the games online at www.mindittv.net/wba

Two top of the table clashes this Sunday the 26th April at the Waverley Basketball Stadium as the VYCM Falcons (1st) take on the Bulleen Boomers (3rd). Who will come away with bragging rights? Make it to the stadium at 12.30 pm AEST to see what the hype about Deng Adel, Kuany Kuany and the rest of the strong Falcons squad is all about. Then at 2.30 pm AEST the SCM (2nd) face off against Bullen (1st) but this time the ladder positions are reversed. Bulleen has been the surprise packet of the competition so far with the Falcon's just quietly going about their business. Will Sedale (Unguardable) Threatt, Ivan (the Destroyer) Platenik, and the rest of the team prove too much to handle, or will the Corey Standerfer led Boomers do a number on the 2 times champions.

Three big games on FalconsTV - we are back on air this weekend! All times AEST
http://www.mindittv.net/wba

04/05/13 20:00 Waverley Basketball Centre (Victorian Youth Championship Women) Waverley Falcons Vs Nunawading Spectres

There was plenty of fight shown by these gusty Falcons last week, but it still couldn't garner a win against the Ballarat Rush. They have another opportunity here against the Spectres who won’t be at all happy with their 4 point loss to the Boomers last week. Both sides are keen for a win and with plenty of young talent running around, this could be a close one too.

05/05/13 12:30 Waverley Basketball Centre (Victorian Youth Championship Men) Waverley Falcons Vs Sherbrooke Suns

The high scoring Falcons were at it again last week against the Boomers, posting 100 points in relative ease as their big three (Kuany, Hothnyang, Adel) combined for 84 of those. They’ll host a Suns side that plays the night before against Eltham. We doubt they’ll be too puffed from that but it could still play a factor. Expect an super quick game without a whole of D. Entertainment as its best.

05/05/13 14:30 Waverley Basketball Centre (State Championship Women) Waverley Falcons Vs Eltham Wildcats

This game will feature a new recruit for Eltham - Isabella Brancatisano! Yes, that’s not a misprint, Issy B has joined the Wildcats during the week and has been cleared for action, a fantastic inclusion for the Wildcats and one which will surely help them stay in touch with the frontrunners. However, the Wildcats will need to be at their best here against a strengthening Waverley team that at some stage will get on a run this season.

If Ardossi and Dombkins get on a roll, and they can lift their young teammates and take them along for the ride, we could see the Falcons cause some major damage as they attempt to go from last up into the top four. It’s a crucial game for the Wildcats, who currently sit in fifth and enter this one after a loss last time out. Put simply, if the visitors want to play finals this season, they have to get past the Falcons. Good game on the cards and plenty of attention given we’ll be seeing Issy B in different colours for the first time in her young but extensive career!

Mother's Day Match!

The Falcon's Men are on a roll whilst Eltham is needing a good result to keep finals a possibility. Will the depth of the Falcons be the deciding factor in this game?

It wasn’t that long ago that this would have been predicted to be one of the best games of the season, but times have changed and Eltham isn’t the same force as it has been in recent years. Depth is clearly an issue for the Wildcats with Scott Cuffe, John Lister and David Buchberger doing the bulk of the work. The same cannot be said for the Falcons with an even spread ensuring they are once again up and firing. Ivan Platenik and Sedale Threatt Jnr are in top form and with the likes of Brad Kellerher and Tom Boyle in the supporting cast, it’s hard to see the Wildcats causing too many headaches

Last weekend Deng Adel dropped 36 points on 78% in just 25 minutes as the VYCM Falcons crushed Geelong 111-70. They look reasonably comfortable sitting on top of their conference ladder and oppostion teams must be scratching their heads trying to work out how to deal with them, when the bench can come out and keep walking away from the opposition. Meanwhile in the SCW, the Falcons The Falcons women are on the up and right now they will fancy their chances to push for finals, especially with Dombkins and Ardossi leading the way. Both the big guns contributed 10pts each in this one, while Evangelia Nikolitsis (22pts) ran hot.

This sets the scene for two absorbing clashes this weekend as we see the Falcons boys take on the Dandenong Spectres in a cross-conference, top of the ladder game. The game kicks off at 12.30 p.m. Sunday.

Following on at 2.30 p.m. we welcome Julie Brookhouse, Tess Feely, Jill McBain and Alex Lough back to the nest, but hope to see them go home empty handed as the experienced McKinnon Cougars (6-2) take on the youth of the Falcon's team (3-5). The matchup between Brigette Ardrosi and Alex Lough should be entertaining and the addition of Tegan Fowler to McKinnon's list makes them tougher again. The Falcon's however are not in awe of the Cougars and their big stocks have been bolstered by the return of Taylor Dickinson from college in the U.S.

Last weekend the VYCM game against Dandenong went into a thrilling Double-Overtime period with the Falcon's finally getting the better of the Rangers. Deng Adel again figuring in the win during crucial minutes of the game supported by an outstanding performance from Abram Hothyang. Now the boys have to fight off another tough challenger in the Knox Raiders. These two powerhouse teams face off at each other at the Falcon's Nest on Saturday night starting at 8.30 pm AEST.
On Sunday, the SCW welcome back returning College Player Georgia Stirton. Georgia had an outstanding season for her college team making the National Tournament in her first year with them, also picking up the teams Most Valuable Player of the Year award, and the Conference Player of the year in addition to being named a second team All-American by the NJCAA. Georgia will join recent returnees Talyor Dickonson and Kate Bluzer in a strengthened Women's team that put the torch to rivals McKinnon last weekend. Now they face top of the table Ringwood and hope to repeat the upset result of last season. Their game kicks off at 2.00 pm
