Under singlet chest protection for basketball

A young player I know has been struck in the chest several times playing in the post. While this is common, the bruising is starting to cause a problem, so he is looking at wearing some form of chest protection under his basketball singlet.

Does anyone out there have an opinion of the best brand, most suitable type of protection that will fit under a basketball singlet without protruding too far?

Is there a specific model made for basketball, or do we have to adapt one from another sport...?

Adidas & Under Armour have some chest guards.
Check out Eastbay. 4 day delivery Down Under most times.

be wary though you can't have anything showing under your singlet, plus if it is hard or sharp it will not be allowed as it may harm others.

Before you go any further and buy one and then can't wear it I'd suggest you get BSA take on it under the rules. hate for you to buy something and then not make use of it.

Found this article on NBA players using under singlet protection from 2009, apparently it is becoming very broadly used, however still doesn't specify a particular product for basketball, other than Adidas...

Seems the baseball chest protection pads are advertised for use in basketball, but the metal links on the wings and the size of the pads appear too big?

Has anyone used either of these two products?

Nike Pro Combat Hyperstrong Basketball Top

Evoshield Back and Chest Guard

Seems these two are possibly the best or most suitable for basketball, the Nike product appears to be basketball specific and offers more rib and back protection that chest.

The Evoshield is different and is a baseball product offering direct chest protection, but may be too cumbersome for hoops...

McDavid was an innovator in this type of product a few years back. Seems other bands have added similar products since. Can't comment on which brands are better. Thought about trialling this type of gear myself.

I know of an ex NBL player who has been advised never to scuba because of chest injuries ie damage to lungs which happened, usually when setting screens and opposition players dropping the shoulder to run through the screens.

Suggests protection could be worth investigating particularly for the big guy regularly setting the screens who is hit by shoulder or elbow of smaller players who rarely get picked up by refs.
