Rudy Gay to Toronto

Not official as yet, but will happen.

3 way trade:

- Gay, Haddadi to Toronto
- Calderon to Detroit
- Memphis get Ed Davis, Tayshaun Prince, Austin Daye and a 2013 2nd pick.

Memphis: Good trade for all teams. Everyone gets what they need. Prince is a perfect cover for Gay, Davis keeps up the defensive intensity and rebounding for the bench unit. Daye is also a handy guy to have. Only worry is the loss of a decent scorer.

Toronto: Gets rid of the logjam at PG. It's Lowry's now.

Detroit: They actually get some leadership at PG.

Great trade for Toronto IMO

Still confused as to why the Griz were so keen to trade Gay. Yeah he had a big contract with another 2 or 3 years on it but it isn't as though he is going to go to shit in that period of time.

Rudy Gay is overrated.

Good trade for Memphis and Toronto but makes no sense for Detroit as they love Knight. Why would you eat into his time!

No Deal!!

Detroit just wanted Calderon for his contract($10.5m expiring), it got them out of the rest of Prince's deal and now they don't have to extend a qualifying offer to Daye. Good move for the Pistons, they are clearly building around 3 young potential stars in monroe/drummond/knight and will have a heap of cap room to add free agents and take on contracts in trades.

Detroit did well. Could they possibly start Knight at SG? He is more of a shooting PG, than a distributor. Stuckey could be trade bait now too.

Memphis still haven't consolidated their three point shooting, maybe getting Ed Davis allows them to look for trades using Randolph? This also would help them with their luxury tax worries.

Toronto get a big name, so all good for them although Gay is ridiculously overrated.

@ Speed:

Prince shoots 43% from deep
Austin Daye 53%
John Leuer 47% (D League)

All pretty good three point shooters.

Getting rid of a soft player like Gay who doesn't go hard is addition by subtraction.

Getting back Tayshaun Prince and his little brother Austin Daye for a fraction of the salary of Gay is a no brainer, and immediately addresses the position vacated by Gay.

Team gets better and saves money.

Leuer is more of a PF/C type shooter, no?

I agree on Prince's and to a lesser extent, Daye's numbers, but I still think they are looking for that young, exciting, good shooting wing. The good thing about Prince, is that he doesn't demand shots to be happy, so that is good news for their offensive balance. More shots for Zach, Gasol and Conley now.

Out of the 3 teams involved, the Grizz were the definite winners.
