Saville to retire

Buzz on twitter is that the Hawks have booked a press conference where it is expected Saville will announce his retirement effective immediately.

Hawks have lost 3 starters in 2 weeks to knee injuries if this is the case.

Plus side for 36ers is surely this means a W Friday night.

Helluva a way for a vet to go out of the game sadly.

I have always enjoyed Sav's energy and smarts on the court.

He will be missed.

Can Gordie fashion another win this season?

Sounds like it's the end of an illustrious career and I wish all the best to Sav and Hawks.

Never liked him especially his continous on-court whinging throughout his career but has been a great servant of the Illawarra/Wollongong Hawks including a key member of their 2001 championship team (we wuz robbed!)

Good luck to him and all the best for the next chapter of his life.

"effective immediately" would be a very strange decision considering their position.

Legend nontheless.

@flatshot - great call
@X - how else should he retire?
@anon776 - agreed. It's amazing that after 19 professional seasons he still doesn't understand what constitutes a foul. Bitches way too much, sadly. Loved his game though.

Hell, cut him some slack. I've been watching NBL for 29 years and I still can't work it out either!

real shame, he was playing well and was being aggressive offensively.
All the best for the future Sav. Tough season for the Hawks.

@X - may have been worth reading the previous posts...
@PeterJohn - when Saville has fouled someone blatantly, on the arm, in the act of shooting, I doubt there has been a single time in his pro career he has ever accepted the foul as the correct call. Glen Saville, Peter Crawford, Mark Worthington etc just don't get 'it'.

Been a loyal & long serving player for the Hawks & the NBL. Unfortunately he did turn in to Captain Grumpy in his latter years & consistentl rode the umpires over non-calls. Will certainly go down as one of the Hawks all time greats.

They are really cursed this season.

This is a great opportunity for Coenraaa@d to show the league he is ready to step up.

If not...there's always Zac Delany.
