Cairns v Sydney 231112

The Sixers are sitting pretty in the four, but have some stiff competition to hold their spot long term. Whatever the result tonight, they will stay there, but who do we want to win?

Sydney seem to be the side that are unpredictable this year with the Hammer extracting wins from tight games like a dentist extracting a tooth without anaesthetic, whereas Cairns are well placed to exploit their home court to their advantage.

Madgen is having his best season yet and almost scoring at will. Aaron "floppy Joe" Bruce is flourishing under the tutelage of Heal and Sydney's team espirit de corps is their strength.

Wilson is my favourite Taipan, Tragagh a close second.

I think this will be a tight game with Crosswhite holding the key to tonight's success one way or another. A highlight will be the Bruce vs Bruce matchup if they get a chance. Cairns is a long way from the dusty floor in Hornets stadium.

I hoping and tipping for a Cairns win to keep the Sixers in the 4.

If Cairns don't win, there's going to be an inquiry... and I'm not talking about anything to do with basketball.

Jamar Wilson appears to have not been very good in a lot of games this year.

Its only limited minutes although Kerry Williams has looked more productive in his time on the court.

Jamar doesn't really turn it over which is great, although his ability to get assists is horrible (probably Fearne offense related).

I only watched from about the 5:00 mark in the 3rd quarter onwards, and jesus these commentators are just stupidly biased (towards the Kings). Fuck, the NBL is trying to push it's product here and really make some noise in the Australian sporting landscape and we have these absolute fucking muppets calling our games.

the fact that fearny has put a 'run & gun' style team together and still.....plan A is to go to last years Offensive grind without the bigs to pull it off.
very sad to consistently watch our 'small bigs' get muscled out and jamar going 1 on 3.

He has underutilised Steindl no end. We shot 37%, our offense is clearly not working. Run and get easy shots. I'm so frustrated with Fearne as well. Edwards needs to be sacked like yesterday to make way for someone who can actually defend and rebound. He gets worse every game I watch him, Edwards.

a player that some what resembles a 5 would be nice.
alot of those 'put backs' under extreme pressure at the ring (that seem to miss every week) have alot to do with that shooting percentage....once again, jamar going 1 on 3 under the pump.
tonight when Hill made a few shots in a row....kings defense had to flatten out and sag towards him and all of a sudden our small bigs found some interior space....then what happens we go back to an O grind...ffs.
with a team like this we need to make/take outside shots.

The worst thing about our offense is the amount of time the ball spends on the perimeter. That really shits me off. The whole offense is based around getting mismatches it seems and that simply does not work.

not sure which mismatches they are looking for....with loughton basically playing as a small 4,tragagh a big 4 and edwards some where in between....then we have about 4 or 5 guys in the 3 spot and a couple of guards.
i would have thought our mismatches would be in a more 'up and down' the court style.

Really thought Cairns would get over the line this time. Trouble in Queensland it would seem.

And yeah who the hell scheduled Carfino and Joyce to commentate a Sydney game.. horrible. TBH Carfino actually was bearable compared to the other clown.

Only watched the last quarter and OT. Wilson couldn't make a layup - must've missed six straights? Difference was Madgen's relentless driving. His mindset is so impressive this season.

I can't stand FOSOJ's commentating, but I thought Carfino was better than usual. Like he cared again. But yes, they definitely love the Kings...

Crosswhite's anchoring of Cairns was underrated.

Just don't get Edwards' role. Off the bench, you often need an impact guy or specialist. Seems like he'll never have time to get anything going.

Well done to sydney again this week playing very well right now. Concern big time in taipan land 3 - 6 with their only two wins vs townsville. Edwards will be under the pump

I don't think you can really blame Edwards, from what I have seen of him this season he has played pretty well. He didn't really get an opportunity last night, only played 8 minutes.

Kerry Williams only got 5 minutes, and Steindl only got about the same. I'd like Fearne to explain why, especially with the way that Jamar was playing at some stages of the game.

The issue last night was Wilson and Tragardh missing easy shots - they shot 11/32 from two-point range and a lot of them were close to the basket - so I cant blame Fearne for losing that game, he had tinkered with the offence during the week and they got good looks out of it.

Well done to Sydney, they just hang tough and make plays, especially Madgen who is a superstar at the moment.

Very amusing Skull, i hope the wild turkey helped your thought process.
A few things need attention

- swap Edwards for a legit 5 (Kazzooo would b awesome)
- Fearne has to adjust. This is not the squad of xmas past & he needs to adapt to different guys!
- Jamar in 2nd year blues/ He made those lay ups last year!!
- This squad reminds me of the Tigers which cost westover his job. They looked stacked with talent but don't click.
- Trigger hasnt been on a winner since the Gong made the final! What gets him going? he gets enough open looks. Is he a locker room sook?

Wholesale (& cheap) changes now. A Chris Burgess type player may hold the answer. Well done to Hammer. He for many reasons needs this job & it shows...

Heal cetainly has his guard rotation playing great at the moment.
Madgen is a clever player, taking it at the mismatches created in an ever rotating/recovering interior defence.
i know Edwards is not getting a lot of court time to prove his case but....you dont have to drop a rock on your foot to see if it's going to hurt either !

Taipans need to get some presence in the paint....NOW.

Edwards is definitely to blame. Go out there and go hard. Just go after the ball relentlessly. Use that damn frame and try and muscle people. He is actually able to break people down with his handle, which he hasn't shown this season. In the preseason games, I heard he was crossing people over, dunking, blowing by the likes of Redhage with a quick first step on a face-up. Such a disappointment... He most certainly needs to go now.

I feel the taipans should get a combo guard to help wilson handle the ball as rychart loughton and trigger are all good for 25-30 min a game and hill can cover 4

I think it's a little case of Taipans being over coached, players don't even square up to look at other options, it's just bang on to the next part... it gets things flowing but defenders can guard you robotically as you run through the same crap over and over again...

Edwards isn't used enough with the right players, too many players playing the one position. So many players for so many positions, they should be playing up-beat in your face D, and then rotations in and out to keep up the intensity... If someone isn’t playing well, they certainly have other players to fill those positions… But 5 mins a game isn’t going to get anyone in the swing of it.

Fearne needs to take a breather and get some decent rotations happening, plenty of depth for continuous subs. I feel like I’m contradicting myself a bit saying rotate them more often, then saying it’s hard to get into the swing of it, but if you’re subbing in and out quick enough, you’re not spending an excessive time on the bench, so you’re still able to get a feel for the game and stick with it?
