Ben Madgen wins Round Four POTW

Took the Kings to a 2-0 road trip which is pretty impressive. Great start to the season for him.

The 2011 NBL Rookie of the Year winner started his team's 'Sunshine Swing’ to Far North Queensland with a 23-point, eight-rebound and five-assist effort in Sydney’s 92-87 win over Townsville on Friday night.

The 193cm guard then scored 22 points as the Kings came from behind to register a victory over the Cairns Taipans at the Cairns Convention Centre on Sunday, 71-69. Madgen had 11 points in the final period alone, including making a crucial three-pointer in the final minute to help kick-start the Kings’ remarkable comeback.
Sole runner-up this week (yes, retain jaw from floor) was Adris Deleon for his 23/3/7 game that beat the 36ers in Adelaide.
Deleon tore the Adelaide defence to shreds as he either scored or set-up a teammate on virtually every play.
And here are the honourable mentions:
Other leading contenders for Player of the Week in Round Four included Cedric Jackson (New Zealand), Thomas Abercrombie (New Zealand), Seth Scott (Melbourne), Cameron Tragardh (Cairns), Anthony Petrie (Adelaide), Gary Ervin (Townsville), Ben Allen (Townsville), Lance Hurdle (Wollongong), Corin Henry (Sydney) and Ian Crosswhite (Sydney).

Should have been Deleon imo, tore the Sixers (who might actually have a shot at the finals) a new one.

Yeah but madgen had two huge games. I feel bad for Deleon though he was kind of robbed. I think he had 5 steal to go with those 23 points, 7 assists and 3 rebounds.

Any other round and it's Deleon's, but there's no argument over Madgen's worthiness... Against Townsville, Madgen also had 8rebs and 5 assists and shot at 62% against the Taipans including 5/7 3pters... Not to mention kept his TOTAL of turnovers to the same amount that Deleon had in just one game...

Cairns have been right up there in predictions for the top 4, they just didn't have as stellar a game as they did in Sydney, possibly because Madgen and the Kings played better this time? They've got Wilson, Trigger, not to mention a great supporting cast and a great coach... The win, after already playing two days previously, shouldn't be discounted as easily as some are doing it...

Madgen was very well deserving.

If Deleon played like he did in the fourth for the whole game then maybe it would have gone his way.

Magden had 1 great game (almost as good as Deleon's) and one game where he scored good but contributed little else stat wise.

If the award was pure stats, Deloen had a better weekend when you add the 5 steals which seemed to have been overlooked.

If its not just based on stats but affect on the game, again Deleon's was match winning where you could say Aaron Bruce was just as crucial for the Kings (where he top scored).

I don't know why NBL even have player of the week, past selections over the years show its pretty random, and there is no set criteria.

It's a meaningless award I don't know why Kings fans are getting so defensive in their Magden defence.
