BASA - Please sell the 36ers

Why don't BASA sell the sixers and concentrate on Grassroots basketball. The sixers must come close to breaking even, and there is room for improvement for a new owner to step in and make some changes and also money.

What would BASA take for the 36ers?

the sixers look like turning out like the adelaide city(the soccer team)where they were very successfull and got crowds but had no money due to bad finacing.

this is what was proposed in the governments report on basa become two entities sixers more than break even but basa keep reducing there budget to prop up there own failings

yes sell the sixers

use the money to promote grass roots and ease the basa debt - let the sixers contribute towards the dome debt forsure but dont reduce the quality of the team to prop up the other

both can be sucsessfull as seperate bodies but as 1 they will bring each other down

email the minster for sport hes interested in our opinions as fans and ticket holders

his replys are well worth the effort

So how does this extinguish the $10M debt that the powerhouse/dome has over BASA. Unless somebody is willing to pay $10M+. I don't think so.

Then what happens when after 3 years if they lose money? Where does the cash come from to keep them afloat? Do they then sell the license to Canberra?

The debt doesn't belong to the Sixers, but to BASA. If BASA go bust and the Sixers are a separate entity, surely they start up again and the Sixers (worst case scenario) play out of the Entertainment Centre, or lease the Dome from the government.

Yes Thomo - please post his reply as well as his contact info as I would love to share my views with him as well.

Maybe if everyone from this forum could share their feelings with him it would help to make some moves with BASA and the 36ers and hopefully have some good changes happen which are long overdue.

Isaac - The Sixers send BASA Broke and the Sixers are okay. - BASA is made up of District Clubs, are the District liable? What happens then? Where does Basketball go on a Junior and Senior Level.

would BASA built the dome if there was no sixers?

wouldn't local basketball been happy with apollo

Sixers = dome = debt

so in some obscure way you can say sixers helped with the debt.

plus no local team got $100,000 fines for salary cap breaches.

The dome was bulit to cater for many other functions and facilities not just basketball.

Netball was played there before the government built them their own stadium.

Concerts are able to be held there but a deal with the givernement means that they are not so that the dome does not cut into the profitability of the entertainment centre.

The sixers make a profit almost every year. BASA and the lightning are the entities that cost money to run.

even so Kent and i do know the history i'm just playing devils advocate here.

would BASA have built the dome if it hadn't been for the sixers

if the result of the majority of the debt BASA is the dome

would BASA be in this position if it was still at apollo which it owned, Athol park which it owned and didn't have the zillion to pay for the dome.

surely it wouldn't have been so friendly to netball etc just to build a stadium for them.

would BASA be in this position if they didnt piss off fans, market the sport so poorly, cut the quality of their team, provide crap food, mistreat sponsors and so on?

Looking at their figures, the team doesnt seem to make a profit.
