Junior teams - where are the kids playing
Had a look at Sportingpulse draws and looked at numbers of teams in boys and girls u10, 12,14, 16, 18. Club (number of teams, number of boy teams/number of girl teams)
Forestville 50, 27/23
Sturt 45, 26/19
South Adelaide 42, 32/10
Norwood 41, 24/17
North Adelaide 37, 26/11
Southern Tigers 36, 24/12
West Adelaide 27, 15/12
Centrals 23, 15/8
Woodville 20, 15/5
Eastern Mavericks 16,9/7
How do these numbers compare with previous years? Are there more or less kids playing basketball?
Which clubs seem to be on the up and which ones stagnating?
Which clubs have numbers at 10s and 12s which 'should' feed into 14s, 16s and 18s. From my reckoning South Adelaide has 10b and 5g at u10 and u12 followed by Forestville with 8b&7g; Sturt 8b&6g; Southern 6b&5g. The bottom end with potential input problems is Eastern Mavericks followed by Wodville Centrals and West Adelaide
What of the under representation of girls? Can see why South Adelaide have taken to active advertising for girls.
What of sustainability of the draw. u18s Div 3 group E there are four teams and three of them are from South Adelaide! can the kids in lower teams be encourage to keep going or will their experience sour.
Can clubs provide enough coaches and venues to keep 40+ teams going?
The summer season should play an important role for training and team selection to feedin for winter.
Food for thought
