With someone like Jo Ingles in a team they would always have to do a fairly good job.

One thing i forgot to mention sorry is to watch out for cabra's open team as in year 8 i think it was the team took it out and they have only gotten better now adding Adam benson to the line-up they could go a long way!

Who else has Ingles got on his team? One player is an old Cabra student in year 10. Plays sturt div 3s and is tiny. I dont think that with someone like that on your team even with Jo could beat a team like Cabra.

Pasadena will smash Cabra! Pasadena beat us by 20 and Jo wasn't even trying. We beat Cabra by about 10 points after that. LeFevre have lost some games cos they didn't have their state players.

I heard on the grapevine PAC smashed Cabra...true? And on Benson, what grade is he now? Was he my grade (ie Yr 12 2002), or is he doing year 12 over two years (2003/4). Either way, that's a mighty big advantage!

At the moment Adam is doing year 13! PAC did smash Cabra but Cabra had 3 players and 3 of which normally play open (Dave Shinnick, Matt Jarrad and Choongy from NT state) they had 2 fill ins. One from year 10 that plays under 16s f/ville and also a year 10 girl played for them! they were not even close to their full team! I heard that Adam will not be playing knockout due to his commitment with the 6ers and is not allowed too.

Yeah, I heard they wouldn't let Holmes or Ng play unigames last year for a similar reason...fair enough too they pay the wage they cant afford to have their employees injured or not on the job.

Hey Yogee if you're going to be MOD then get rid of the names. If we can't post names of people playing Junior DISTRICT basketball (because of the opinion of ONE coach) then we definately shouldn't be allowed to mention names of school ballers.

Andy, both Benson and Ingles play Senior ABL and are up for discussion by the "rules" of the community. No one has passed judgement on individual performances of the others named, so they'll stand unless someone presents a good reason for their removal.

As I've said, this is a pretty vague guideline but as long as you're not commenting on the individual merits or otherwise of younger players you're OK. If they've played at a higher level, they're open for discussion. All I can see here is a bit of Benson vs Ingles, but nothing too specific.

I'd send them both to AIS, and over there they'll have be ready to take comment on their performance.

So you are saying they both should be going to the AIS. What is the age limit for the tute. Do you really think benson could go their??? How would that happen

Did Bronson Kies go to the AIS? I've seen him play twice and heard that he did, but couldn't see why. He's not a bad player, but he didn't seem like he'd make the NBL.

Now, I've seen Benson get minutes in most ABL games with the Sabres and the worst he's done is missed shots. I've not seen him screw up a pass, not take an opportunity or not go hard at the boards. He's agile and has the right mindset to at least have a chance at taking his game further.

Ingles would definitely have to be a chance.

But then I don't really know what selection criteria (age, etc) that they use.

The AIS picks their people on Nationals performaces (mostly) and from information from their local ITC programs. Bronson ripped up 18 Nationals and they were hoping he could become a slashing/rebounding off-guard and realised while at the AIS he'd need work on his range. This was at the same Nationals Benson was at, and played mainly a defensive role.

Also a players age comes into it as the AIS is about preparing players for the next level, playing for Australia. Starting with U20 and U23 duties.

Well last year they took in some guys first year out of U20s (Lucas Walker from Tas..) to prepare for the next U23 Worlds.

What is Pasadenas full line-up? Does anyone out there know?

Just for everyones interest, Adam Benson is currently doing YEAR 14!!!! He failed year 12 TWICE, surely he shouldnt be eligible to play, anyway I wouldnt read too much into the results, as he is a good 2-3 years older than everyone else. Benson is renouned for his crumbling under pressure, and all that needs to be done is to hit him a few times, talk some "smack" and he's gone. On the other hand Ingles is a very talented player who deserves to go to the tute. Benson is a good 20s player, but an average to poor 10-20 minute ABA player and yet still finds a way to the 6ers training!!! If he went to the Tute, which he wont, then Australian basketball is in SERIOUS trouble!

I think I'd take any involvement in a Sixers program more seriously than the judgement of an anonymous Monkey on here. But thanks for your little report anyway.

I think they're both good players. I'd bet on Ingles' future first, but I think Benson is decent too.

benson over jingles, i assume you are joking. anyone outside of a mental hospital knows that joe could wipe the floor with benson. who cares about the rest of the pasadena team, they dont need them. i think people are forgetting that 45 points in 26 minutes effort at the u/18 nationals. i could never imagine someone like benson taking over a game to that degree. if he dominates school ball, who cares? he is 2, 3 years older than the rest of the comp, and still acts like he is king of the world when he is playing against these developing 16 year olds. he is already fully developed and his game aint going nowhere. joe vs benson.... no contest.

Well i can tell you now i have never seen joe ingles make an assist or set a hard pick to get someone open. Its not always about scoring. Its good to see webber making it??? He can talk it but can't walk it!!! I've seen him play 20's and all he does is shoot it every time and try and prove a point that he is the man. Burdon is way better than webber. For starters he is taller and doesn't have little man syndrome, he would have more of a chance at making than webber. The difference between Benson and Ingles is that benson takes the right shots and plays hard defence. When has ingles ever guarded someone in the post... NEVER!!! and when has he set a pick and played tough D.... NEVER!!!! So Mr Monkey Wrench grow some balls before and know what you are talkin about before you get jealous of other people succeeding especially over benson and ingles.

Regarding Ingles, if you are refering to his D at ABL level, remember his is 17 and its his first season. There were other guys on the floor guarding the bigger guys. To those who think he plays no defence, i refer you to the stats from the u/18 nationals where he was in the top of most statistical categories including IMPORTANTLY, BLOCKED SHOTS and STEALS!

No defence? i guess he just got lucky enought times? In the 45 point game in 26 minutes, i believe he also had 7 steals, 7 blocks and 8 assists...

Ok fair enough, but what did he keep his player to on Defence??? i heard the player he guarded wasn't the best in the team, other players guarded their best players whilst ingles was guarding the not so good player. He is simply not a hustler he expects eveything given to him on a silver platter!!! Benson on the other hand can play tough defence and come down the other end of the court take the right shot, set a good pick, give an assist and clean up the scraps....

To summarise - everyone has an opinion on certain players and don't give a shit about the quality of the other. I can merely say that Benson and Ingles are both quality players and will bring forward the very old adage - they will probably cancel each other out! Who else do Pasadena have?

Please elaborate! I only hear reports from guys on my team and my brother on which teams have which players in the school comp, and haven't heard squat about Pasadena except alot of Ingles-love. You can name names as long as you don't criticise or anything!

Aaron Forsythe - Under 18 div 2 player for southern. Plays big but is a bit undersized

Sorren - Plays 18 1s i think for Sturt. Don't know too much about him

Mikele Kuhar - Plays 18 3s for Sturt and is about 5 ft. He will not get much court as he is only year 10 and too small

??Michael?? - 18 2s for Centrals. Most probably bench warmer.

Trevor - Doesn't play for anyone but has skills and is as quick as anything
Rohan - I think he plays country ball
Aaron - Used to play for Sturt not sure if he still does but he is an allright big man

maybe that is why jingles WILL go to the institute. he is already an awesome player, and you are pointing out his weaknesses, which means that they can work on his weaknesses at the institute, and he can become even better. he has potential. benson, according to you, is already the complete player, so where is the need for him to go to the AIS. jingles is already better than benson, and has the potential to improve even more, which is what i thought the AIS is all about, developing the young players with plenty of superstar ingredients.

Mate i use to train with benson at state and now i play against him. He is no where near his peak. at the moment he has a good inside game, great defence, and a great want for the ball offensively and defensively. Maybe thats why the 6ers asked both of these guys to go to the 6ers so Breheny and Smyth can see how much potential they have.

Le fevre already got knockd out. If Cabra dont have Benson they aint even gonna go close to winning. Unley dont really have anyone who can step up in a big game for them to win it. sure they will win their fair share of games this year but thet arent good enough to win the comp. Trinity are outsiders. Who else is in there? there are four other teams what are they??

pembroke, if they are in it, will not go close. pac, now there is your outsider with a good chance. i will not be surprised if these boys make it to the final. they are well-drilled, they know how everyone else in the team plays, they take their basketball seriously and have alot of depth. their own problem is their hot-headed PG, once he gets fired up, he will be kicked out of the stadium, and so will any chance they had of winning the title.

Pasadena have 1 decent player. If a team can have 5 solid contributers on offence and defence. and some decent contribution off the bench then Joe cant stop em all. he could score 40 points but they cant win if the teams they play can play a team game. Pasadena have no other scorers.

And what are those three teams which have headcases. People can lose there temper but that dont mean they are gonna lose. Teams have more than one player. Except for of course Pasadena.

Sounds a bit like a school called Lake Gininderra (not 100% re the spelling)in Canberra that won the National Schools Comp when I was playing in 1997.

That is the school that some of the AIS bball players go to.

In 1997 they had David Smith (formerly of the Melbourne Tigers) and David Andersen playing for them. They may have had another AIS guy as well but I can't remember.

The rest of the team were your average high school social bball players making the team quite funny to watch. They still won the whole thing with Andersen averaging 40 and 20.

The only game they lost was to the NSW team that featured Gary Boodnikoff. Peter Crawford played for the Townsville High School team.

It was definitely interesting watching future NBL players playing high school ball where they had the green light.

Has anybody been to the National Schools Comp since and has it featured any other NBL players?

I think you will find that Cabra is not a focus school. It is just a school with tradition in basketball that has had a lot of basketball lpayers go there because of friends.

Cabra is chucking out girls scolarships like there is no end to them. Nearly all of the Cabra open team are on scolarships or have been recruited by Cabra!

Updates today for KO! Cabra boys beat Wirreanda by 30+ and also beat Trinity by 3! Cabra girls won both their games but not sure by how much!

i saw the cabra girls beat mt barker and loreto by 35-40pts each... theyre in strong form. Unley girls also performing extremely well.

With all this discussion about individual players, (and I'm not sure I like so much naming/slandering of players who may still only be 16 years old) you should remember the old saying about a champion team beating a team of champions any day!

Why should schools not give scholarships. I know for a fact that Pasadena have scholarships which involve the payment of money to players at their school.

If a school see's a benefit in having a student in their school community, surely it is up to them. Just the same as if a family can see the benefit of havnig their child receive a better education than they are currently getting because of their kids basketball ability.

Sounds like sour grapes. And I think you will find that all the Cabra student do pay fee's of some kind.

Word on the street is that Chris "Air" Clausen was callin a couple of players on the opositon team chin nutz! after some huge dunks in trinty's last game. Not something ya see every day in school ball in Australia.

i called it..... weeks ago i said that if the PAC point guard loses his cool, as he almost always does, then PAC won't beat any of the top teams in KO. In the pasadena vs pac game yesterday, it was a very tight and tense game, and he got fouled out 2 minutes into the 3rd quarter, only to get himself teched for swearing as he was exiting the court. they lost the game, and had to play blackfriars in the semi where they lost that too. well done mate.

Pasadena is lucky to be in the finals. it should have been a PAC Blackfriers final. Blackfriers will win easy. Joe is one player Blackfriers is a team

i dont reckon that pasadena do have the talent to guard all of the blacks team. i have watched this team play and no one so far has been able to contain their height. there whole starting five is over 6 foot, no questin blackfriars will win.

passa could hardly match up PAC. if PAC were on it would have been a definate PAC win. blackfriars are deep. passa is one player shallow. blackfriars will win no doubt

PAC was off their game. if they were on passa would have had no chance. PAC played scrap basketball because thats how they were being defended, SCRAPPY. it should have been a blackfriars PAC final no doubt in my mind

obviously pac doesnt deserve to be there coz they couldnt beat either of the teams that are in the final. If it were to be a blacks pac final, no contest. Blacks have already beaten PAC twice. Pasadena dont go deep enough to beat Blacks. Is there an all star 5 thing for KO. Umpires were giving out votes after games.

PAC should have beaten pasadena. the have the ability to beat blackfriars aswell. do you think they were trying in the semi because by the look of them i sure didn't. they lost to blackfriars by 12 the previous time but only one of their players was in double figures. back to joe ingles, oops sorry i mean pasadena, they were LUCKY to beat an off game PAC. if you think pasadena deserve the finals spot over PAC you have got your head up your arse.

it is true, he is one of those players that looks for a fight in anyone but i still think he was the best centre there. the talls from blacks i don't think were that fantastic. sure the guy could dunk and sure the other guy was huge but they didn't have enough skill in any other areas. donaldson can shoot outside and in and he is athletic, his game should be all interior and he doesn't really need a left hand

eley is a great shooter no doubt. probably the best spot up 3 that played in the KO but how does he get his open looks? he needs a team behind him. the PAC team made him look great. he hasn't got any other skills apart from spotting up. he would not be anyones pick for an allstar 5. you need to do more than just shoot to be a gaurd

Donaldson is overrated. All that needs to be done is aggrovate him a bit and his game goes all over the place. Blair is too hot headed get him aggrovated and he will lose focus. doesnt deserve to be there.

Whoever said the blacks big men were crap are lost. The big blonde guy looks like he is bad but he owns the boards and scores pretty well. And the lanky dunker is generally awesome. He is a blocking machine, and has low post moves. If he is so crap and has no skill then why did he make U18 state.

who is that gun greek long hair guy for blacks? he averaged 1.666ppg and dominated! the lanky dude(El-mac) is absolutely explosive and had a couple of huge dunks(5 actually) for the KO. Spud had an awesome KO and the blacks team spirit was great. Good luck to the BLACKS boys as they are truly kings among men.

PAC had a tough game against pasadena and only lost by 5 but the coach used the same few players and by the time they were in the semis against blacks they had no fuel left in the tank to play. They had no chance against blacks because they were on their game but could have at least put up a decent fight. It was all over by the end of the first quarter...especially with tanky #50 scoring 7 points in the first few mins and blowing the game right open.spectacular!!

Everyone is bagging donaldson and blair well they both started in 16 4/5s and now r 20 1's and 18 1's respectively....credit where credit's due. considerin pac made top 4, and i noticed it was a different coach, he was wearin a yr 12 '03' jumper, and only lost by a few buckets to passadena they r a very good team in my opinion. disregard the semi vs blacks they were all screwed u cud tell.

ok ok ok. just so people know about the pasadena side here is some info.

Starters:
Jo - need i say anything???

Rowan - ex-sturt div 1, country state, good offensive player, good on boards, good overall defender, plays to the end (hard player)

Soren - one of the best defenders in SA can contend with anyone, great offensive mind, one of the best allround players (got alot of his game from his bros)

Aaron - good passer always looks for open man first, hits the boards hard, allright defender, shot has a little to be desired, has a fairly big mean streak to him (will stand up to anyone, loves to knock people around, watch his elbows)

Trevor - ex-south, talks alot of smack but cant seem to back it up on court, not much of a shot or a pass, likes to show off, watch his drive will take it all the way and usually finishes off.

Bench:
Mikele - sturt div 3 and 1 (occasionally) quik on feet, in your face defense, likes to drive and shoot.

Aaron - tigers div 2, good rebounder, allright shot, a little undersized for big man, plays hard.

Matt - centrals div 2, overall average player.

there just some name players. they got some other guys, but they are just to make up numbers.

oh by the way. pasadena played a fairly average game against PAC. those guys are the biggest a-holes ever, except for that one guy Jo nailed on the screen, hes a nice guy. im surprised that aaron guy didnt nail the guy who tripped him or the one who elbowed him.
will be close game sunday if both teams play well. if both play well will be a 10 point game either way im saying. you never know. lets just hope they put a good game on.

i still stick by the fact it will be close. you can have all the names you want, but you only get 5 on court at a time. not to mention, egos do take over games. just look at PAC (USA to a lesser extent).

Starting line up is the first five. Spud being the shortest at 5'11. The players on this team aren't big headed. They know going in that it will be a tough game. All 9 are ready to work for this.

I think PAC did well to get close to Pasadena. They had more height, more skill, more experience and a better star. I didn't see anyone else get that close to Pasadena, except i think Blacks will give it a go! Yes, they may have an ego or 2, but when it comes down to it they do play as a team!

Why would you call a tech tho. Everyone was impressed by it. There is no point ruining a highlight just coz he hung on the ring for a bit. Its called showmanship. The whole crowd loved it. In a normal game you might call that a tech, not in a grand final though.

Sundays game was terrific. as a spectator at the game, atmosphere was terrific everyone gettin behind both teams. i thought leif, spud n el mac played very well aswell as the big guy #34 (hows his eye..?) for blacks! welldone to the boys. ingles was kept alittle quiet for my liking but blacks just had the overall talent n skill and HEIGHT to beat pasadenna... Congrats Hounds. U wanted it more...

i think thats exactly right n im not sayin 34s a god, he just does the little things n uses his height fairly well to get his side over the line.. backed up with good gaurds n a a good team he could go far.

on a team like blacks and as a first yr in 20 1's all is asked of u is to do the little things, which yeh is what joe does, who knos on diff teams he might be a vry diff player
