There's a facebook tribute page to the guy that names him. News outlets still haven't made it public...

Apparently his dad is on a flight to Vegas now...That would suck so much, 14 hours to go and pick up your son who has died. Imagine how hard that would be and the things your mind would do in that time.

Absolutely horrific. Even more so given the circumstances in which he died (don't really wish to comment on that though given they haven't been announced).

Port have now officially confirmed on radio that it was John McCarthy who died in Las Vegas.

Very sad news and condolences to his family.

...it is believed McCarthy fell from a building, but not at the hotel in which McCarthy was staying, and he was not with any of his teammates at the time.
Found at 5-6am. Only 22 years old and in his first season. Horrible news for his family and friends.

He had played a few years with Collingwood until they delisted him at the end of last season but yeah this was his first season with Port.

Supposedly he's from a big family and two other siblings have died in tragic circumstances as well.

I hate to speculate but footy trips tend to breed stupidity. I bet booze & whatever else has been a major factor. Very sad for all involved. The culture has been cleaned up a bit over the last few years but end of season trips & mad mondays seem to always have a casualty! One bad decision somewhere during the night has cost this young man his life!!

Orbit if you hate to speculate then out of respect for the young man, his family and everyone who knew him, DON'T.

Its Vegas, ofcourse there was alcohol involved.... Its not being disrespectful to assume grog was involved at 530am in Vegas, c'mon now. Id just like to know how a guy got to the roof top of the Flamingo!? Those Vegas hotels are under lock and key just so random.

Orbit, of course you can have your opinion and even express it however it is just that sometimes it's a good idea to not express your opinion about such a devastating situation

In all probability given the time, location, people involved and the purpose of the trip, it would likely have been drunken hi-jinks.

Could have happened to any group of blokes celebrating a bucks, birthday party etc.

Would such hard to be his family right now

"Apparently John McCarthy left a local nightclub about 4:30 [am] and walked to the Flamingo casino," Brissenden told ABC News 24 today.

"He ended up on the roof of a four-storey building and he jumped on to a palm tree, thinking that was an easy and quick way down.

"There are three witnesses to this. An elderly couple from California and a local person saw this happen."

McCarthy ended up on the driveway below.
