Another case study:
Townsville have only spent a little over half a million on their Aussie players. So, they had nearly half a million to spend on one or two imports. It's quite a staggering figure.
In theory they could have brought in a rookie for the minimum (Crocs have no rookies this year), and given one import or euro aussie nearly half a million big ones.
If you develop local guys long-term that will play for their hometown club for less, you can have lots of financial freedom (strictly speaking roster-wise, of course...the crocs are struggling to get people through the gate these days and aren't in the best shape in terms of off-court finances), and if the local public hadn't lost interest in the game and the team, and Townsville was still a more financially succesful franchise and could spend the full cap, you could truly land some monster foreign-based Australian or American talent.
It's a well put together roster, fiscally, is what I am trying to say. And that's even though Peter Crawford got overpaid on his shiny new contract...
I think (just a hunch, haven't done the math) Cairns are spending a little more this year than last year, but again, very fiscally responsible club that doesn't spend the cap.
