Halls/Woolacott

Who are the favourites? Both men and women?

And how do we find who's leading the stats in each contest? Is this known as yet? Is there a website?

Everyone's picks for the following:

Best dressed

Drunkest

Most likely to tell their coach where to go

Worst dressed

Now to the real stuff, was going to pick Daly for the men, but he has missed a few games? Maybe Pero?

Tess in the women by the length of the Nile.

It'd have to be one of the north boys telling their coach where to go wouldnt it?! Pero doesnt have many fans in the team from what i've heard...However he is my pick for the woolacott.

It is to be hoped that all attendees give the MC, Medal counters, Medal winners etc the respect which they should, and not have a repeat of past years, where people carry on loud and abnoxious behavior at these relevant points in the evening. The night is after all an event to honour the top echelon of the competition.

So why are the front 8 tables every year full of people who dont even attend ABL games?
For some this is their only basketball apperance for the year, and mostly to the fact they get free tickets to attend the night.

Let me guess
- run with the low budget sound/visual option and cheapest meals/drinks package available.
Doors open 7.10
tables cleared of drinks 10.30
lights on 10.45 - all out 11pm
Rush through another medal night BSA...

no wonder basketball is struggling.

Couldnt agree more that they make it about the free guest who havent contributed to basketball in the last 15 years. Just watch the old coots whinge when the current players have some fun in the boring parts of the evening.

ANON 7050 do you consider the whole night boring?

then please don't attend

because the bad behaviour goes on THE WHOLE NIGHT

Brett Maher on the dais, can't even be heard

Medallists wish to say a few words after their win? can't be heard

If players can't find the decency to give some respect where its due and STFU then please stay home and watch game tape.

For the past recenct years the reason people can't be heard is because the sound system is crap!

How about cancel all the free tickets and make the freeloaders pay -
use this money to upgrade the sound system / entertainment package - hell maybe even get a live band...

Reply #377069 | Report this post

that's bullshit anon and you know it.

I don't disagree that the sound system is rubbish

But you have a room full of disrespectful individuals

Fear not. You won't be there next year anyway

It will be scrapped for a more 'intimate' presentation for the medal contenders.

You can shoot off to the pub with your mates to catch a live band.

I'm sure the 'freeloaders' have contributed a hell of a lot more to basketball in this State than you have, and they know how to keep their mouth shut

Did anyone notice besides me that Olivia Thompson's overall production went drastically south as soon as Apples Borrego starting playing with the Feagles? That makes me think of that old saying:

If it's not broken don't bother fixing it!

so the ones that have contributed so much to basketball in this state??
like what...lets see how it stands
- No one attends or cares about the top level ABL
- The standard of the ABL is a joke compared to other states
- Most Venues around town are crap
- and juniors are leaving to other sports

Basketball in this state is a joke!!

But lets pat the people on the back for letting it get this way.

And dont fool yourself - every year there is talk of a better event. It never happens.

I thought we were discussing the Medal dinner.

All your other points can be argued ad-nauseum on a hundred other threads on this site.

You can't defend the indefendable.

If you have had any experience at ANY other Awards dinner, Association/Convention Awards etc etc you would KNOW that at ALL of those dinners RESPECT is shown to the participants.

If you think its OK at an Awards night to let of steam, scream, yell and laugh over speakers at the lecturn you have no idea on appropriate behaviour.

Have to agree with pen15, no respect from the players, west Adelaide men carried on like morons all night, southern women throwing food instead of eating it, sturt girls rocking up half an hour late, want to let your hair down go on a end of season trip and do it there!

Fact of the matter is simply that basketball in SA let it self down with the behaviour and lack of manners displayed by way too many from almost all clubs.

South and Norwood, and West and Eastern and so on. It is wrong to point the finger at one or two clubs when a number of clubs did not show the respect that was warranted.

I have to say that the night was one of the most disgusting events I have ever attended. It clearly demonstrated the complete lack of respect for the sport, the award winners and any speakers.
Teams turning up to the event drunk.
Players vomiting in the foyer.
No repect shown to speakers.
Players having food fights.
Family members of past greats turning up to present awards and shown no respect.

I don't care what you think of BSA and the way the sport is being managed,it was clear that BSA was trying to put on a professional presentation to build the profile of the competition. For the first time I was glad that BSA do not have sponsors for the CBA, just imagine if sponsors turned up to that.

The players and Clubs deserve for BSA to cancel the event and hand out a wine glass and pizza to the winners after their last game. It is all the players and Clubs deserve.

I understand that many did handle themselves well and do not deserve being branded by the group, but I am they would also agree

I agree with the low respect levels that is being dished out but we do need to remember that after such a long grueling season people do want to let their hair down, some of it was disgusting and i am sure aftrr reading this those players should and would be disgusted in themselves. What needs to also be taken into account is the age of the players and the understanding from them that this is a professional event it needs to be made clear of the expectations that bsa have for these people..

There is no justification there simply stating the obvious facts. Yes it should have waited until after i also agree with that.. Whats done is done, majority of people had a good time so be it Im sure if you were out after with these players what happened at the dinner ou would fibd minor...

Clubs need to make the players aware of standards required, and then penalise people that dont meet those standards
