Olympic Allstar 5?
Who do you think should be in the Olympic allstar 5 if it was named?
I'd say:
Kirilenko
Durant
Lebron
Pau Gasol
Manu

Don't think I can argue with that five. No PG though.
You could make the case for Patty due to that buzzer beater and the tournament high in points in a single game, but he didn't play the all-round game very well, and who would he unseat in the "five"?
TOP 5 Points:
Mills (Aus) 21.2
Durant (US) 19.5
Manu (Arg) 19.4
Pau (Esp) 19.1
Scola (Arg) 18
TOP 5 Rebounds:
Yi (Chn) 10.2
Mejri (Tun) 10
Diogu (Ngr) 9
Romdhane (Tun) 8.6
Nene (Bra) 8
TOP 5 Assists:
Prigioni (Arg) 6.5
Huertas (Bra) 6
Shved (Rus) 5.9
Lebron (US) 5.6
Jasikevicius (Ltu) 5.3

Don't need to turn to the buzzer beater - you could make the case for Patty for leading all scorers with 21.2 PPG. Closest was Durant's 19.5 PPG.

He shot the ball at a decent enough clip too, overall.
Would you take him over Manu or Durant though?
What's the criteria here, is it positional or just the top 5 players...

I woulnt even have Party as Australias best player. Ingles had a better overall influence on our results.
Points aren't a very good indicator because of team strengths.

Charon, I would too favour Ingles. Just saying that if you're looking for reasons to put Patty up, leading the tournament in scoring is worth mentioning over a clutch shot.
I definitely wouldn't name five players from the US team. Putting two in there is pretty reasonable.

I would pick a 10, because there is so much talent, or maybe just call it my first and second team!
P Gasol
L James
K Durant
M Ginobili
M Huertas
L Scola
A Kirilenko
C Anthony
V Fridzon
L Barbosa

Yeah, you know, the second best player on the bronze medal team who was excellent at both ends of the court and one them two games off his own hand.

Did I say he was better than Kirilenko? He was Russia's best player and Fridzon was second, comfortably.
Shved was easily Russia's 2nd best player but he got ridden by the coach A LOT and consequently say on the bench too much in the prelim games. Came up huge when it counted.

Some of you guys were on the money with your Olympic first team. ESPN released their top ten players

Love it how Arnovitz refers to Ingles as,
"the Australian big man"
Obviously didn't watch him play once. What a knob.

Shved had an awesome last game, he is very capable of that, but he got ridden by the coach (who loves him) for a reason.
He is susceptible to pressure (understandable given he's playing out of position), often makes poor decisions, has a very inconsistent shot which he goes to too often, and is well below average at the defensive end.
He is the sort of guy you have to take the good with the bad, which is fine in a regular season, but in an Olympics tournament he is only valuable on the days when he is firing offensively. Blatt managed that well.
