Bogut: AFL drug policy too lenient; offered drugs in clubs

http://www.slamonline.com/online/nba/2012/08/andrew-bogut-says-he-is-offered-drugs-in-australian-nightclubs-regularly/

Bogut says he is offered drugs on a regular basis, and his opinion on the AFLs anti-drug rules.

Personally I think that the AFLs drug policy is way to weak, especially if someone is on a drug other then weed. 3 chances is a joke if someone is getting on a shitload of meth or something everyday.

Stock standard. Whenever I go out in Melbourne people are shocked I don't do them. There are so many footy players etc who do them. They are so easy to get.

I don't know if you guys have heard the rumour doing the traps that (Mod: Bzzt) has well and truly passed his thrid strike, and (Mod: Bzzt) is on about his fourth strike. (Mod: Bzzt)

I know I'll probably be shouted down as a rumour monger but I'd be keen to know if anyone else has heard similar?

JC, please watch what you say. I do not want heavyweight players and the strongest sporting league in Australia harassing me legally.

Same goes with everyone else too.

Has Bogut done any homework? I think the AFL's out of competition illicit drug code is stronger than athletes at the Olympics.

Have heard very strong rumors that key players have been caught many times.
One player is supposed to have remarked that he is so important to the marketing of the game that he will not be punished and is quite brazen about his socializing
Cousins undoing was that the police were involved and so his issue was undeniable
My mail is that almost every journo in Melbourne is aware of the issues at hand but are scared to report anything as the powers that be may black ball them for life

Yeah, it's pretty common knowledge in football circles. Maybe they need a buddy system to help these players avoid the pitfalls?

The rumour was that a recently suspended player was very blazae about telling everyone when he was drunk not that long ago he had been done 3 times already...potentially could be an early retirement for this player as he has discussed openly.
And don't worry Paul, it was subtle for most of us! ;)

Have heard the same thing.

Paul: What homework is there needed to be done. Do you get 3 strikes in life? Didn't think so. How hard is it to be a elite sportsmen and not do drugs knowing the reifications?

Come on guys think about it. They get so used to these amazing experiences in life (without drugs) that any mediocre event / night out is a drag.

I'm not wealthy and I can still afford cocaine, (each to their own haters) I can't imagine what I'd get up to if I was
- 25 and good looking / cut
- a hero in many peoples eyes
- had famous / celebrity friends
- and was earning $40,000 per game

The thing I would do differently is invite friends to my house, then party

These players get caught in public and when the media gets hold of it, it's all over.

Like all walks of life, 20% of men aged 20-30 do drugs.
400 afl players = 80 meth heads

----------------------

Illicit drugs are not prohibited out of competition under the WADA drug code that most sports follow, nor does the NBA test for them out of competition.

In the AFL they are prohibited in competition with no strikes and prohibited out of competition with the proviso of three strikes.

So the AFL's drug code is tougher on illicit drugs than the world governing body and the NBA, why is Bogut having a crack at them and not most other sporting bodies around the world?

Can anyone understand why you don't hear more about NBA players getting done for smoking weed?

Everything you hear suggest its widespread as hell.

Don't even get me started on Zach Randolph..haha
