Boomers vs USA... whats the game plan?

Ok, I expect to have a whole lot of responses about how were gonna get smashed. I dont really want to hear that, that isnt very helpful at all. With an effort like we had in the second half against GB we could at very least keep margins respectable against Team USA... Id love a win, and I think its important for the team not to think of the possibility as a "miracle"... Team USa almost fell to Lithuania, and Lithuania only has 1 win for the tournament and has fallen short of teams we could beat.. so its not beyond the realms of possibility that we could dethrone the giants of the game if everything goes our way.... dont call me crazy! What are the steps we need to take to minimise the scoring ability of team USA... what are potential strengths we can play to over them? I would suspect that our run and gun style may play into there hands... how will we deal with team USA... whats our best chance at what some people would consider a 'miracle'

Note: dont want to hear about how were getting thrashed... wnat to hear how we can give ourselves the best possible shot.

Yep thats really helpful mate. i am talking about minimizing our losses and doing as much as we can to stay as close as we can.... people who think like you never achieve anything of greatness because your already frightened of the odds.... the odds are so slight that the universe would be so perfectly aligned in every way for life to exist that the fact that were even ehre is a miracle... yet here we are... Highly unlikely things happen every day... The Boomers beating team USA is highly unlikely but whilst its a possibility it must be prepared for....

oh you think they will just go there and get star struck by those NBA superstars? Of course they go there to win, a belief to win any games by ignoring the status of their opponents.

We as fans think differently. For many years those NBA superstars were sold all over the world and we always look at them as heroes going against the rest of the worlds including ours. And we will always be stubborn or persistent in playing against those basketball Gods of our minds.

But again, they are in the Olympics. An ancient flame that ignited hundreds of years ago when commercialism still nowhere to wash our minds.

Look how Lithuania have done it this morning to US Team. and still we couldnt be convinced because they are Lebrons and Kobes.

Maybe, we want the Boomers just to make a no show in the game just to satisfy our hollywood movie like perception happens.

ok......0 x turnovers for entire game....95percent from the 3 line....2/3 game ending injuries to (key) usa players....bogut makes an appearance and plays a full game, racking up 30 points & 25 rebounds......if all this fails (BB's plan b).....give the ball to mills and get out of the way !!

too much of a hollywood movie eh. yes, NBA games are hollywood products. And when you have too much of them you tend to forget other parts of the world even your own who of course have the right to play and win any game.

Don't let them run - off stops or makes.

So we need to run sets deep into the shot clock. If there's 25 possessions a qtr, we need to take 25 good shots.

Take good shots - if we take early shots out of trans we're done for.

Also need to get on the offensive glass - limit their ability to run.

Defensively, if we're picking our poison, try and make them shoot contested jump-shots, so short close-outs. Try not to rotate too much and limit switches. Less confusion that way.

Japorms said what i am thinking... Lithuania almost did it... and there 4th in there pool... I wasnt asking what the score would bne I am asking how best to minimize damages! strange things happen in the game of Basketball .. and against any team you only need a few guys to start firing to win... we dont need to be more talented player for player... we just need to play our cards right.... david vs goliath... shit, we got within 11 with a crappier team then we have now.... amd they had a better line up. Its not likely, but weirder things have happened. I wanna know the game plan! for mine, I think we have to try to exploit them inside, force them to shoot jumpers and try to lock down the paint.

Mills will always going to do it. Who else? ask Brown

Mills is not bad. On the court, he took more shots to compensate lack of talents in the team. thats Brett Brown plan for sure(confront him if you dont this coaching plan).

Off court, Mills comes from a family of Sports circle, plays musical instruments, make nice jokes, well liked by his NBA mates even given a prvilege to host TV segment in Portland. Also, always ignore any racial issues towards him and instead prove it on his games.

i dont understand why there are more hates than admiration for such a nice guy

Japorms... hes a good guy, and he has talent, but i must say... he does some braindead things on court at times. Last night was trhe best ive ever seen him play so credit to him, but he usually needs to put up alot more shots to get his numbers.

I want to see strong defence..absolutely pressure every ball handler and every pass. Take the style out of their game and reduce them to a skills based team. Push them out of their comfort zone and absolutely harrass them. Push LeBron the most, he is the most mistake riddled player when he is forced to play outside of himself and this will ruin his confidence and make him collapse like he has so often before.

Come out hard on the Defence and push hard to the ring to try to get their foul count up.

We have to play with self belief and constant movement. Brett Brown wanted us to be the fittest team on the court and this is the game we have to show we are.

I think the USA are beatable because of their arrogance. We showed how damaging we can be against GB..continue that form and we can down the USA.

Have to agree... get there foul count up early by attacking the ring and getting guys touches in thepost. they will have to give yopu room to operate then... and agreed, Lebron James crumbles if things arent already going his way and hes definitely the head of this team at the moment.

Kobe leads NBA in FG attempts in years because the Lakers live and die on his offense in-spite of other scoring options that the team had.

Last season, Kobe finishes with 43% FG accuracy and they just let him walk away. The team lives and die with his offense.

Mills just little over at 44% FG after 4 games but he's more authority to shot more because of Bogut's absence and none from the Boomers can step up further.

Durant, Westbrook and Lebron James belongs to the top five players who led NBA if field goal attempts last season.

Its just an accord game plan that many of us couldn't accept.

Better result is what mattered most for the team mostly when it gives them important wins.

So who will be the match up's?

Chris Paul Vs Patrick Mills - good contest with 2 fast guards
Deron Willams Vs Delladova - Williams will dominate, Della will try and show he should be considered an NBA pick next year
Kevin Durrant Vs Joe Ingles - Good test to see how good Ingles would be if he could play in the NBA
LeBron James Vs Matt Neilson - game over, James to dominate. Actually we have no-one who can guard LeBron 1 on 1.
Kevin Love Vs Derrick Anderson - most interesting match up. Anderson has been playing well and has range and size. Could be interesting

Brad Newley Vs Kobe Bryant - uuummm, good luck Brad ....
Carmelo Anthony Vs Mark Worthington - Melo has been dominating and probably won't be slowed here.
Tyson Chandler Vs Aaron Baynes - Good contest. Baynes playing well but Chandler is a beast.

Russell Westbook Vs Adam Gibson - Gibbo probably wont play until junk time. Westbrook too fast anyway.
Anthony Davis Vs Alec Maric - non event really. Davis unlikely to play. Maric is likely to get 10 mins and 3 fouls.
Andre Igudola Vs David Barlow - both haven't really been playing
James Harden Vs Peter Crawford - both players onboard to hit "that 3" when required. Unlikely to play.

For Australia to have chance they will have to rotate only the main 8 players (and maybe Maric) as I can't see the other players guarding anyone. Will also likely have to zone the USA team for most of the game AND get out to the shooter's which is hard to do given Wiliams, Bryant, Melo, Durrant and Love could be a rotation.

I think Mills, Ingles and Anderson will need to have massive games AND if Matt Neilson is ever to roll back the clock and take more than 3 shots in a game and be a dangerous offensive players it will need to be this one.

again, if we are in NBA where they encourage isolation plays, player match-ups are inevitable.

Looking at team USA roster, if we will think of match-ups then we better off not sending any team at all because those players are freaks in every department and will only eat our players.

But of course, we have to look too at this factor seriously.

So the rest of the participating teams will rely most on team offences and defences. Also players rotation will be an important factor too.

There's no way we will go on one-on-one plays against the americans.

and last, the sports psychology we are tough on. Have faith

Very simple, play an offense very high, outside of the 3pt line when with patty in. This will open up other offensive players.

To note the question above, no, we are not definitely playing the USA, but it is more than likely.

If Argentina can beat the USA, then they might move to the top of group A. I say 'might' because the final result will depend on a couple of things.

If France lose to Nigeria, then Argentina just need to beat the USA to finish first. However, if France beat Nigeria, then Argentina will need to beat the USA by 17 points to finish first.

So all Aussies should be cheering for Nigeria to get over the French, and then for the Argies to knock off the Yanks!

i remember reading the news about that Belinda Snell's buzzer beating from the half-court. i almost freak out when none of the aussie writers can figure out how to explain it in a simple manner. one has writtten like "from its own back", ridiculous such

Junk it up - beat the crap out of them. Not pretty, but it might just be effective against a team that have shown they dont like physical play. Thats all lithuania did to them.

if we try to play up tempo transition style we will get eaten alive.

Lithuania played their game plan like they were playing any other opponent. They rebounded and ran hard looking for transition shots, and in the half court they spread the floor and either shot threes or took it to the cup.

It's not that different to Australian style basketball we see in the NBL, and ideally it's how our team can play in the future. Im not sure Brett Brown is quite ready to change his style in a couple of days though!

We just have to play our game and see how we go, hoping they have a horrific shooting night. Whatever we do we cant fall back into our habit of being reactive defensively or it could get really ugly.

Run the ball at every opportunity so that the USA doesn't have time to shut Patty and Delly out of the game.

Make it really physical to annoy the heck out of the pampered superstars.

And hope for a bit of luck in the shooting department, so that we get points from everyone who's free rather than just 3 or 4.

We have three players who take 60% of our shots (and score 58% of our points), so it is tough to expect others to score much.
