Skip, what you are proposing doesn't make sense. 3200 is incredibly taxing on a horse. Add the 9 hour float ride one way from Melbourne and it's ridiculous, especially considering there are more than enough quality lead up races in Melbourne for the cup. The way the carnival is set up in Victoria with the Caulfield Cup, Cox Plate, Mackinnon etc is a perfect lead up to the Melbourne Cup. There doesn't need to be any tinkering with it.
Adelaide's raving carnival has always been around May, then for no good reason they moved the cup to March hoping they would get better weather, which they have, but at the same time, the race doesn't fit in the racing calendar and hence the quality of the race has diminished (gone down to a Group 2 race when it previously was a G1).
The Cup fits in May perfectly. Fits in well with the Sydney and Brisbane racing calendars and gets a better quality field. The sooner it gets moved back to May, the better.
