Troy DeVries a Free Agent

Just saw Troy DeVries has been released by his club in Europe and is now a Free Agent, got me thinking is he an import guard the 36ers should look at.

to me he meets 2 of our 3 needs being 3pt shooting, ball handling assistance, defense.

He would be a great 3pt shooter to spread the floor for our bigs, probably hard to get a better player in that regard,

he showed in his earlier stint he can help handle the ball when required, not really his strength but ok and given we have 2 point guards on the roster he would suffice in that area,

the only thing is he isnt an overly strong defender, cant remember him being woe full either so could be ok, given we have Creek who is a good defender who can guard most guards and Crosswell is also solid, and not sure how good Cadee is but dont remember him being shocking at anything, so could be fine.

What do people think? DeVries a decent option?

Obviously pursue Gibson and Newley first in this spot, but would be an ok option to me.

Yea true, thing that made me wonder is that i didnt think him or Winder were bad players, just not a good import combo as both are SG's, both would be ok in this years team imo next to propper PG's and both did have some handy games,

DeVries 3pt shooting ability also made me think he could be a good option.

Winders scoring punch, defense and athleticism could also make him ok,

Dont really wanna relive the past, especially that year, but given most of Clarkes import guards have been SG's with some ball handling ability, makes me more confident with his import selection this time round as we wont be trying to turn a SG into a PG for once.

just checked, before getting hurt TD had 15 6 and 6 as averages. Also only had 1.5 TO's as well with the ball in his hands alot.

exactly not bad numbers, also shoots well, didnt he have a good relationship with Radford also?

These things are why i think he is worth considering.

Sure De Vries averaged 12, 4 ,4 but no way his shooting percentages were terrible.

He shot just 36.5% from the field and 29.4% on 3pts.

Im not basing my curiousity around his prior 6ers stint, that made Tyndale's seem All Star calibre, but unlike that dud, DeVries had been decent previous to his injury and by some accounts did well after the 6ers when he got fit again.

can you link the story on troy being released, I cant find it, last I spoke to troy it was a two year deal.

love to have him back though, with the 36ers doctors mis diagnosing his injury and that costing him 6 months out of the game and an operation I cant see him returning.

I think he is worth a second chance. He is a decant chap and played well before his injury. Unfortunately as a professional being injury free is important.

My only concern would be whether the Sixers end up too guard heavy.

I liked him here , in particular his first game , runner up NBL POTW .
Back then , Clarke : " He's gotta injury that ain't gonna get better (that season) , plus he's not a gamebreaker . "
Although I thought I saw him here recently.
Not sure . Someone out there looked familiar
that I cain't quite place .
