Do the Boomers need an overseas base?

Soccer has accepted that they need to go to where most of the stars are, and has set up at least one base over in Europe for their trials and get-togethers of the national squad.

Is it time for the Boomers and Opals to do the same?

There's a european Training Centre run by the AIS in Northern Italy. That's what it was meant to be used for: a European training base. It's used more by the rowers and the cyclists.

The basketball program used it in the past but no longer.

Even the AFLAIS academy used it recently - to plsy the European All-Stars. The thing is, it costs to use. And Basketball Australia (in conjunction with the Sports Commission) hasn't got the money to use it.

I think people don't understand that the AIS program can be run however BA want it to be run...if they want to have it for their senior men's program in their off-seasons from professional leagues, they can. it doesn't have to be for juniors only.

it's a good idea. The facility in northern italy has eveything they have in canberra.

Yeh and maybe they could play in Euro competitions, good place for players who don't make the NBA or WNBA (after AIS and then US colleges).

Would the local Italians be prepared to adopt them as their own?

Can we find a wealthy sponsor from middle east maybe?

Everything has one answer doesn't it?

The Government spends cash on football, IN PART because it buys us much more influence overseas with Governments and Business than any other sport Australia plays save maybe cricket in India and Rugby in SA.
