Mavs - Warriors
Women: While the Warriors have improved on last season, they have dropped their last four and come up against the Mavettes who are like a B-Double with a full load speeding down the freeway. Only the brave daring to get in their way. Tonight the Mavettes are the truck, the Warriors, the bugs on the windscreen.
Men: Ricey should be happy tonight. The Mavs are cementing themselves into wooden spoon position, but a word of caution to the Warriors, "every loss brings the Mavs closer to a win".
Rockets-Lions
Women: Rockettes have found their swagger and have bagged their last four, Lionesses casually collecting wins like a Swiss maid collecting mountain daisies. The tin shed will be rocking loud tonight and neither team will be clearing their bench. Lionesses to take it in OT.
Men: The Rockets are set in the Top 5 whereas the Lions are yet to snare an away win. That's unlikely to change after Saturday night.
Flames-Bearcats
Women: Hopefully the Flames haven’t returned the webstats USB stick to Mt Barker yet so we can watch it on the web. Either way, Bearcats fans will find their slow roasting painful. Plenty of opportunity for Simon to try out any new offences under game conditions.
Men: Norwood’s form guide went north with the inclusion of Lycett who had a sudden impact. West are yet to crack 80, but are sitting high on a table that has tightened up at the top. Is this the game where DJ suits up?... or warms up? Both coaches would be doing their homework this week and my kiss of death goes to Norwood, who should bottle the momentum from the girls and skull it like a solo.
Tigers-Eagles
Women: Eagles have dropped their last 2 and Tigeresses haven’t lost at home. That’s good enough for me to lean towards the Tigers. But, as we all know, Forestville and titles go together like a golf club and cane toads.
Men: With Luke in town, could the Tigers take a lead from another team and put him on the scoresheet in preparation for finals? Probably futile effort as they won’t be there. Eagles to take the honours 0-2 tonight.
Sabres-Panthers
Women: Both teams in all sorts of trouble with Panthers licking their chops for the chance to devour a Sturt team. I’m sure someone from South will know the last time ANY South team beat Sturt, but Panthers are very close to a win and this could be their chance to unwrap the plastic from the One Dimension CD and listen to the music. As we all know, the key to beating Sturt is to never give up. Sturt never do and with their home crowd support they might just dine on prawn cocktails and champagne at the Panthers expense.
Men: Sabres dropped their first two and it looked like a rather awkward season would prevail. But after a 5 game run, they now sit atop the table in a position which fans are more accustomed to see them. Other teams would prefer to see them in a different position. Panthers came out of the box, then eased slightly. But failure is a mistress that is not welcome in Sabreland and their drug of choice is winning. They expect to get a shot of it tonight.
