Draft State Champs Draw Out

Just hit the web, so check it out and start whinging !

The draw doesn't seem too biased this year, The U18 Forestville Boys even have a HOME game against North Adelaide at Hillcrest. Advisory warnings have been issued around Parafield as flocks of swines have been seen circling Mawson Lakes

Don't understand the under 14 girls reserves draw pool b 2 new teams in same side of draw with Norwood and Sturt. Either Mavs or Magic should be on other side of draw, logic would suggest that eagles undefeated are on 1 side of the draw and Tigers on the otherwise. And why the hell throw a 3rd Eagles team in the draw

if eagles have a decent div 3 team there is nothing stopping them from nominating as a 3rd team.

Having some knowledge of this age group , 1 group is fairly weak and the other extremely hard. Giving I think a huge advantage coming into the semi final round, just think it could of been done better

S / Finals to be eagles 1 v Magic and Tigers v Norwood

A lot of talk about the div 2 u14 girls and the pools etc but what I really don't understand is why so many kids and parents waste their time playing div 2 at the big clubs when there are div 1 opportunities at the 'other' clubs

By whinge, do you mean about how the person who has done the draw has given his own team the moring bye on Saturday and given Sturt a 3 game day, where they then get to play the final game of the day.

Sorry to point out the obvious!

PS Says more about the person foing the draw than the kids who will just go out and play.

ohh Bob, If the kids will not get coaching then they will not. And to be honest most the kids that could play Div 1 at other clubs are happy just playing 2s with their friends at the on they are at now.

Secret Sabre there you go whine whine whine, you don't think that it's because sturt are ranked third and that's the way the computer spits out the draw?? Suppose you will complain about not having enough home games now!

Eddy Eagle you have never had to complain about the draws for many years. Arnott doing the draw now and Colin Jennings before that.

Bob There are good coaches at small clubs and bad coaches at big club and good coaches at big clubs and bad at small clubs. Kids will only move if 1. Coaching is Bad 2. Kids they are playing with are bullying them (it happens)or 3. Parents Ego (The my kids a star). Normally 2 is a result of 3 and 2 a result of 1.

What isn't explained is why a lot of div 1 kids are moving clubs. It will be one of these reasons which one who knows.

I think rather moving the talented kids BSA could look at providing incentive for talented coaches to even up the competition or improve the programs at underperforming clubs.

Good luck to all the teams, coaches and parents for State Champs

Eddy,

Don't care where games are. Just that the person doing the draw always seems to help themselves out. The draw can be done in any number of ways. Can have that game done in any of the other games if you organise the draft draw differently. You can have the 1 v 3 and 2 v 4 as the 3rd game of the rounds and can have the bye organised in any spot. And I dont doubt the person doing the draw know this!

Think it would be good for just once to have it impossible for someone to point out a possible bias!

Whinging Sabre

Don't you think if he wanted to advantage his team he would have programmed his team to play sturt first, not have to slog it out the night befor a possible matchup with Southern the next morning??

Actually no. What he has done is to make it possible to beat Sturt when they are disadvantages from having to play an extra game, and then let Sturt and Southern beat each other up in the morning game before he plays the winner in the final.

For those saying "well they are the #1 seed"consider for a second how they obtained it. By playing Southern & Sturt without their best kids. And who directly influences that? Just a thought.

1 should always play 3 at home, so I have no problems with that. I do have a problem with the fact 3 has previously hosted 1 when it suits.

secret sabre not involved with champs this year, but think you will find life is not perfect and there will always be a bias whether it is a true bias or one perceived by the person looking for one. Not saying either way if you are right or wrong just saying that given the logistics of the entire weekend, there will be teams that think they are being disadvantaged. swings and roundabouts I reckon.

Fair point triton60 re good/bad coaches and good/bad players, We could argue about which comes first at club level, it may be easier to attract quality coaching if u have a competitive group of players and a good coach could attract players from div 2 to a div 1 weaker club.the big clubs attract the best players by default regardless of the quality of their coaches. My point was if my child was playing div2 at a strong club I would look for a mid range div1 side with a good coach !
Surely the div 1 player movement is a no brainer ! - classics/national clubs and finals!!!!!!

Secret Sabre you might fall in a hole and that last game v Forrestville not even count, don't count your chickens before they have hatched mate

Reply #359634 | Report this post

Bob, most people play at a club because of friendships and they relise that no matter what club they play at, the likelyhood of their kids 'making it' as a basketballer is nil. Hence, play with friends at your local club unless you are getting a bad service. Nothing would be worse than moving to a club to get bad coaching and not getting the benfits of classics/Nationals anyway, only to get smacked each week and not be around your friends.

Vodka, dont expect it to be perfect, just that if you have someone doing a draw for a competition they are in, there should not be the possibility of compromise or the competition is bought into disripute.

Someone should simply say, OK, sorry but no home games for you and if someone can show a bias then you will need to stop coaching, especially when it has been shown to be the case in the past.

Sitting on the fence, it appears Secret Sabre is treading dangerously close to a lawsuit if they continue their unprovoked attack of false accusations, which challenges someone's character morally and ethically in a public forum, especially when they have no hard evidence. Surely, when issued a court subpoena, Hoops SA will be more than co-operative in providing your private information so the write person can be sued.

Just looked at seeding positions of 14 G div 2 and wonder why a team that doesn't play in the summer season ( Mavericks ) get rated 5, the Magic don't lose a game in Div 3 don't get a ranking and the Eagles team who don't lose a game in Div 2 don't get seeded ?

Someone will have egg on there faces when these 2 play off in the G/F

Great to see the excitement. I feel for the kids who do not want to play 4 games straight and loose by over 50-100 each game, great weekend!!! Why does this happen, cause other clubs are bigger than others, they have a greater pool to pick from, therfore easier to get better players, and good coaches hang around. Bad coaches at smaller clubs occurr because no-one else wants to do it, so you place anyone in the role, good coaches dont wont to waste their time with kids who cant run or catch and placed in high divisions cause there is no-one else to pick. Unfortunately clubs are too proud and always want a team in div 1 or 2, even if their kids arent up to standard. Its been said before but recruitment is the key, well done to the clubs that recruit well, goodluck this weekend. Maybe we need to re-think the state champs, why are we wasting some people's time. Shouldnt only the top 5 or 6 teams playoff? This way it is a reward to get there. Where with sub-standard teams you can place them in a carnival of choice throughout the year at playing level where improvement and fun will occur.

So you're suggesting that 6 teams should be competing in each grade? So the 10 teams in 14 boys 1 who are all a chance shouldn't be playing at SC?

Yep. Should of won more games to secure higher position. Therefore they are rewarded and selected to state champs.

I actually find it all weird, you win a 4 day carnival and your called state champs, yet u win the season and your just the winner of that season. Imagine the NBA having a mid season tournament that meant more than a championship.

Secret Sabre says "Says more about the person foing the draw than the kids who will just go out and play."

From this independent observer's viewpoint it says more about secret sabre than anything or anyone else else to be quite honest.

Given the shame he brings on his club, secret sabre should remain in the shadows rather than pointing fingers at others.

Perhaps Secret Sabres gets the prick of a job of organising the State Champs match-up for 2013 and have everybody "squeal" at him- or her (Bitchy).
Surely if Sabres are as good as Secret Sabres thinks, there should be no problem, or is Sabre worried that they may have dropped off the pace this year?
