Sixers gave him an offer but he has decided to do a second year at the institute, same as Newley did

hopefully they will stay in touch then as he continues. I dont know much about him but it seems a lack of attention and desire stuffed the newley thing so it would be bad to have the same thing happen again. Maybe Hill will talk to him if he is having a good time.

Seriously joshua, the 6ers would be monitoring every single player at the AIS especially the ones from SA.

If they are interested, of course they will talk to them.

Newley was a different story, he has alot of family in Qld that swayed his decision.

Sorry I need to agree with joshua pending. The sixers didn't monitor Newley and haven't contacted the AIS regarding the current crop. Ryan Kersten, a point guard has sign to go to college and then sixers haven't spoken to him.

Joe has been offered a two year contract with the sixers after he finishes at the AIS. The contract will start at the end of 2006

if the sixers never spoke to kersten because he's a selfish player, maybe playing over in the states will teach him that he's not the golden child

Id have Kersten on my team anyday.Joe get your schooling up to scratch and get your butt into a US college system in the next couple of years.Playing for the Sixers is small fry compared to what you could achieve if you get exposed to the US system.

Sponge Bob, what kid didn't hate school?

The college system in the US... actually most of the educational system in the US can be described as Mickey Mouse at best!

Their academic standards are so far below AUS its almost comical.

(Before you start accusing me of Bush Bashing, i actually did study in the US for a little while, well, i was enrolled, not much study was done.)

If Joe had a look at the ciriculm he would be doing while playing over there, i am sure he could make a make a very informed decision, that the college system would be best for him in the long run.

I too studied in the US college system, and in the school i went to would agree with your comments, but can't give account for the whole country based on that experience alone. However i believe to get in to most schools that you must obtain decent grades (even if they will be easy to maintain once you get there). But i dont know Joes situation so really cant comment there, other than the ball would be better over there.

School is nothing like uni, and I'd imagine nothing like US college. No one should discount the chance to live/play ball in the US AND get an education for free on account of not liking school.

But, his choice...

Not to discount your comment doc, as playing ball in the US system is a great opportunity no doubt, but in the US another word for a college is a school, so i meant college when i said school. and like i said that was only 1 of them. :)

ITA, was referring to Sponge Bob's comment that Joe didn't want to go to college coz he hates school.

I have only heard from others what college/school is like in the US. Just saying a chance to travel, play under a different system/philosophy than in Oz, live on campus and get an education for free should not be passed up coz you hated your maths teacher in year 10.

As you know, uni kicks ass on school. Social life is great, no one is on your back. I'd imagine ball players would have tutors too?

ryan kirstan, while rated very highly by far too many people, needs to get his head out of his arse before he becomes a good player. he really thinks he is alot better than what he is. he is too small and slow to be worth the 6ers time. and as for joe, good decision to stay at the ais for another year, he also needs alot of work. i saw one of his seabl matches this season, and if he wasn't turning it over, he was shooting it, and that is not a pretty sight. work on your shooting and actually have a go and dont look so frightened then maybe the 6ers will give you a call.

The levels of education (English, Maths, Science Economics, history) the average year 10 or 11 student receives hear in Australia is the standard most first year college student would expect in the state.

The standard of education that I was studying as a senior (Aust yr 12) was completely a waste of time; it was the equivalent of the higher levels of year 10 Maths and English. That has nothing to with the country of origin but a lot to do with the population of America (the standard of education has to be at a level of the average person) China is different because they have a different social system and there is no room for mediocrity (in American there is)
