Marc Stein had a good point about this on Twitter: how is it that the organisation who'll impose the penalty is the same organisation that owns the team?

Of course there's no place for this in basketball, but Blake Griffin happens to be one of the most arrogant showboaters in the league in terms of his on-court demeanor.
Not condoning it, but some guys get sick of it, get frustrated and then do stupid stuff like this.

You have gotta love how people do shit like that and then their primitive brain instinctively thinks that by putting your hands up after the contact nobody will notice what happened.

I don't think Stern will have any conflict of interest in suspending Smith. Blake Griffin is waay more important to the league than Jason Smith would be to the sale of the Hornets. Blake Griffin might be more important to the league than the whole Hornets team.

The hit was a bit over the top. Penalty will be interesting.

In hindsight though had he fouled hard in the air he could have done a lot more damage. So it is fair to say this is a much better flagrant to have than a normal hard foul that one would have recieved playing the Knicks in the 90s

Blake plays it up a bit at the end in my opinion, but was a hard foul. He's a solid boy and it's not as bad as what you would see on the footy oval. I remember these days...
