Harvey facing surgery and end of Blaze career

If the operation -- to repair an old injury discovered to be the root of his chronic calf problems -- goes ahead, Harvey's season and his career with the Blaze, will be over.
Full article

Apparently he won't be offered a new contract with the Blaze in the off-season.

The article mentions speculation that he might play with the Kings. Quick call to Hammer? How would he fit in with Bruce, Madgen and Bose?

Very interesting. Hammer needs to not get caught up in 'jobs for the boys' mentality. It's not like he's winning record as a coach is brilliant! He does however love Harveys game & to not try & sign him would mean he's been talking shit for the last 5 years.

I think the 36ers should offer Harvey a contract, not top dollar but 5th starter/6th man money, if he can stay healthy would be a upgrade on most of our current Aussie guards.

Anon598 - can't agree with you. Never been a fan but don't think its a coincidence that the Balze have started to play D while Harvey and Goulding have been out injured.

Harvey can't keep anybody in front of him and can no longer create that awful step back fade-away he releases from about row 3 (which most teams are prettty happy to let him shoot).

IF Heal keeps the Sydney job and IF he signs Harvey then he wll consign them to mediocrity and under-achievement.

Had to laugh earlier in the year when Harvey was quoted as saying he though he had another 4-5 years elite basketball in him - at the current rate of 3-4 games a season then he's probably right.

harvey would be a good guy coming off the bench but not as a starter these days.

Think you'll find Hammer will beat Vickerman to the coaching spot now. He already has Brett Brown searching for imports!

Looks like Harvey has been carrying the ankle injury for 2 seasons since Boomers in China. Not a good sign that the Blaze don't look after the medical side of their players. Club deciding on the op being done now is to escape the question why Wright doesn't play him in a week cause he is coming into great condition. Calf fully healed for the first time with new treatments. Plenty of local back lash could occur. The career is finished here under Wright but should go on for 2-3 years. Easy to write up a contract to cover his ankle recovery. Worthington, who didn't get a vote, I am told, for the Captaincy this season, will have to hope Joey, his regular fishing partner, can just appoint him next September.

Gibson has been co-captain for last 2 years. Quiet but efficient. They have been a great duo who get on well. I expect Worthington to just be appointed in Harvey's place next season. As a new Blaze contract promise, but not put on paper, it was embarrassing for the CEO when the results were so anti-Wortho. They can't risk another dud vote. He's a solid bb player but unpopular and a lousy leader. Has said that he's lost the opportunity of a lot of personal sponsors this season when he didn't get the captaincy.
