One's NBL games this weekend - is this a joke?

Ok, this has to be a stuff up from someone but how in hell do we have this Friday night's game on OneHD being the Hawks vs Blaze from the `Gong and followed up on Sunday by the game on One being.....Blaze vs Hawks from the Gold Coast?????

Are they kidding or what?

its a joke that the same 2 teams play eachother on the same weekend, and to have them both on one is pretty stupid.

2 teams playing each other twice on the same weekend isn't unheard of but to televise both games while totally ignoring other games is a joke and shows that One (Ten) don't really give a rats arse about the NBL or its fans.

How fucking hard would it be for them to telecast the Kings vs Crocs or `Cats vs Taipans game on Sunday instead of giving us the Blaze and Hawks for the second time in 3 days?

I think this could be a ploy by one to politely to tell the NBL to f*ck off!!! We are honouring our contract but we would prefer to just f*ck off!!!

Good call. That does seem to be the basis of everything else One has done with the NBL this season after all. They really are being spiteful bitches, sacrificing their own ratings just to stick it to the NBL because they no longer like the contract they signed with them.

I am pretty sure they pick the games before the start of the season. People could have said the same thing when we saw the Sixers play Tigers and then a few days later Sixers play the Crocs

Just catching on now that One HD dont have any drive to see the NBL succeed whilst they control the telecasting!? It is what it is, NBL had to sell their soul to the devil so to speak, so that atleast something would be on free to air.

Sadly I can't argue about the way One is treating the NBL or its fans.

And KingJames the main difference is that the 36ers played 2 different teams in Round 18, unlike this round where One are showing BOTH games between the Hawks and the Blaze this weekend. Once is ok but both in the same round is more than a bit on the nose, it stinks to high heaven as my mum would say.

And when is the NBL going to grow some balls and say something???

good news for hawks and blaze fans though..

I gave up being annoyed about ONE a while ago.. I just record all the games, watch the ones that were good over the week when I have the time, delete the blow outs, and only avoid the results online and stay up if if its a wildcats away game or guaranteed to be a blockbuster..

OneHD has to be the worst TV station out of all of them. To go from a dedicated sports channel to a channel which is embarrassing with it's lineup of cheap TV shows, I honestly couldn't care less if the station folded. Channel 10 doesn't seem to want to do anything to help, and I can't see the station lasting long enough to see out the 5 year contract.

Can anyone tell me one decent show that is on One? Apart from the NBL, which they have already screwed. I'm a huge NBL fan, but vie lost interest in the coverage a long time ago for these reasons:

1. Sick to death of Carfino and his amateur commentary
2. Late night slots and too many match ups that don't interest me
3. Pathetic skits before the game make the NBL look like a league out of Semi-Pro the movie
4. Way too much coverage of the cheerleaders
5. No highlights as the season progresses, only clips of what happened last season
6. No adverts promoting the games, and finally no information on the TV guide apart from telling us that the league started in 1979.... Bloody hell !!

anon #580 TV Networks aren't set up as a community service. They're set up to make money.

Considering the sports based ONE was averaging roughly 0.7% share and now they're around 3.0% share I'd say Channel 10 would be comfortable with their decision.

Your beef is with the morons that watch repeats of shows from th 70s and 80s on channels like GO, 7mate and ONE. They're the ones driving the networks away from new content (which is expensive to produce) and Sport (again which is expensive to produce).

ONE is closer to 2 than 3, but I see your point. Still struggling to attract advertising apparently.

dan i dont think ten just dont like the contract they signed with the nbl, i think they have learnt what the nbl are like to deal with, they have noticed their incompetence and also the fact that the nbl have zero interest in changing for the better. so ten provide the bare minimum to the nbl in the hope they get the hint and take their so called business somewhere else. yes the fans lose out but in part hey lose out because of the nbl and partly because of their eternally dickless ways. the nbl are far from saints here which is what they would have you imagine.

Getting to the pointy end of the season. 2 games- both show only one finals contender.
What a fuck up..

No complaints then about One showing the Tigers/36ers game on Saturday night? Both teams are crap and not finals contenders.

I'm not a fan of what has happened this year with TV coverage, to a point.

But the schedule was decided before the season started. So the Tigers 36ers game at the time may of been a decent match up. many thought that the Taipans & Crocs would finish in the bottom 3 before the season started (the other game that night)

I'm sure ONE/TEN could of allowed modification to the TV schedule once it was obvious that the Taipans Crocs match up would be more entertaining than two teams fighting to stay middle of the no where pack.

In saying that, no excuse for 2 Hawks Blaze games on one weekend. Maybe it had something to do with money & travel exp?

ten will also milk the nbls failure to get a team in bris to claw back $ as per the contract, if the nbl are lucky enough to still even have a contract next season. nbl didnt exactly do themselves any favours there, but they knew the deal with ten and what was expected of their contractual obligations ! ;/

Tens started to Advertise the NBL and what nights its on now, its actually a pretty good advert..might be a sign that the new people in Ten are actually going to start trying to make the most of it

Word is the NBL and Ten are seriously looking at a compromise deal next year featuring fewer games but more live ones, perhaps two a week with another replayed? The key point is finding a time that suits clubs and Ten.

If a good balance is reached expect Ten to once again start trying to get return for their investment rather than trying to piss the NBL off to the point of walking from the deal.

No probs KingJames, thought it was that :)

What's the alternative to showing the games on One though? Forget Foxtel, they're still pissed at the NBL and besides that it limits the potential audience. Seven? We'd get January where games are likely to be shown st 2 or 3 in the morning because of their commitment to the tennis and then from Feb/March they start with the AFL. That leaves 9 or the ABC. Presonally I'd rather the ABC if anyone because 9 have the cricket followed in March by their late night NRL telecasts (late night outside of NSW & Qld). At least the ABC don't treat their sports fans like they don't matter...

If it came down to a cost thing for One then how hard would it be for them to show the Kings vs Crocs game on Sunday instead?

still stunned that any entering club would take that punt to coome in off the back of a crumbling deal. am sure that to some degree that instability also had a negative effect on the bris bid particularly towards the end with the well off guy who was keen. ofcourse they couldnt get any clarification or comms from flanagan & co, so decided it was all too risky and unstable in the end. but then knox as mentioned the other week is now being headed up by carroll so who knows, that could just be personal confidence in his old timer mate sengstock. next year certainly doesnt look steady until theres some {overdue} disclosure from nbl.

How can you disclose something you dont know yet?

Reply #351678 | Report this post

like disclosing to interested parties what they do know, and being honest about what they are still working on so that interested parties can make an educated decision and have all the facts they are entitled to know, before making decisions, thats how.

And why would they speculate about what might happen? At the moment they have a specific contract and until something else is agreed upon that is where it stands.

look up some recent past threads. nobody asked them to speculate, thats what theyre doing, instead of disclosing fact. they state they are confident of this and that and it doesnt eventuate. interested parties arent interested in vague generalisations of how the nbl want things to go, they are interested in knowing what is fact and what is still being worked on, and if the nbl wants expansion, then its a no brainer that interested parties are entitled to know where they stand. end of story.
